I'm always fascinated by the screen names that people choose.
Some, of course, are obvious: I'm pretty sure I know what Taylor Larimore means (and why he chose it). Others (e.g., Findelglorin, nisiprius, and 555) are less so.
So, what's the story behind your screen name?
Mine's pretty straightforward: I'm a magician.

"Fallible" reminds me that I am, and it reminds me of its keen awareness by our Founding Fathers, e.g.:
"As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it, different opinions will be formed." ~ James Madison, Founding Father, Father of the U.S. Constitution, former President.

For a presentation on project risk management I came up with a routine in which dice disappeared from one hand and reappeared in the other, changed color, and multiplied. It's a fun routine to perform.SP-diceman wrote:I like the concept that dice represent probability and risk. (in gambling games)

I loved those books - that and the Mad Scientists Club, for some reason.JupiterJones wrote:Jupiter Jones was my favorite character from the "Three Investigators" series of books. And he shares my actual initials.
Mine's a nickname from grade school, from the wonderful Schoolhouse Rock.

Yeah, the Huy Fong version is pretty different in taste and texture ... even color ... than the traditional Thai version.Langkawi wrote:Unfortunately, most people in the US think Sriracha sauce is this Vietnamese monstrosity:Sriracha wrote:Sriracha is a favorite Thai chili sauce of mine. In Ancient Greek the word praxis (πρᾶξις) referred to activity engaged in by free men. Aristotle held that there were three basic activities of man: theoria, poiesis and praxis. There corresponded to these kinds of activity three types of knowledge: theoretical, to which the end goal was truth; poietical, to which the end goal was production; and practical, to which the end goal was action.
I got the above definition from Wikipedia. I'm not a philosopher. I liked the idea of taking action. I was at a crossroads of a sort with my finances and the knowledge I discovered here helped put the pieces together for me in a way that was clear enough for me to "take action" and make some changes that were overdue. I will always be grateful for that. I commemorate that free choice with my name, "praxis".

Mine comes from my native american ancestry. I first used spiritrider as an email address about 1990. I posted this beforein another thread
As was told to me, it is the myth/legend of an aparition of a "Spirit Rider" astride a "Ghost Horse". He appears to those troubled souls who need to be lead out of the darkness. It has differnt meanings in different tribes and the more recent past.
Mostly I just used it because I liked the way it sounded. Of course, the "diehards" helped lead my troubled financial soul out the darkness of using expensive full service brokers.
