Favorite Bogle Book

I was debating what investment books to add to my reading list. There are several I see recommended here in the reference library, etc. I see that several consistently get recommended - Boglehead's Guide, Four Pillars, Winning Inv Strategy, Random Walk, Intellegent Investor, inc.

To start down this road, I think a book by Bogle would be fitting. I know he has several titles - In your opinion, what is the best book Bogle has written to date?

. The random walk guide to investing : ten rules for financial success / Burton G. Malkiel, 2003. (202 pages)
. The little book of common sense investing : the only way to guarantee your fair share of market returns / John C. Bogle, 2007 (240 pages)
. Index Funds: The 12-Step Program for Active Investors / Mark T Hebner, 2007 (394 pages)
[ Better to look at readers' comments from different sources first. ]

Hint: The second step should be on Asset Allocation plan and Model portfolios.

While I've read several that you listed, I've only read one Bogle book. I recently finished The Little Book of Common Sense Investing.

I have no idea if this is the best one. However since its new, it is up to date with facts, figures, and even the latest investing fads (there are caveats to ETFs and slice and dice). It is short, simple, and to the point with no fluff. The book is a powerhouse of wisdom and practical application. I don't think you can go wrong.

I have every book written by Jack Bogle. My most favorite is "Bogle on Mutual Funds: New Perspectives for the Intelligent Investor".

Bogle's latest book, The Little Book of Common Sense Investing, is by far his best. It is the most concise and readable, and his presentation of the research and data supporting indexing is his best yet. Common Sense on Mutual Funds is good, but it is somewhat dated, being written in 1999. It is an interesting read, written towards the end of the tech boom and just before the tech bubble burst. Bogle on Mutual Funds is also good, but very dated, written in 1994.

The Four Pillars of Investing is my favorite investing book.

I believe Bogle’s best book is his: "Bogle on Mutual Funds: New Perspectives for the Intelligent Investor".

Followed by “Common Sense on Mutual Funds: New Imperatives for the Intelligent Investor”.

I like "The Little Book" better than the "Common Sense" book. I also bought the "John Bogle on Investing: 50 Years ..." book yesterday. It has the original 1951 Princeton thesis that started it all. For $5 shipped (used copy), it's a bargain.

What is the best book Bogle has written to date?

That is a difficult question because everything Mr. Bogle writes is good.

One of reasons I started our "Collection of Investment Gems" was to help investors get a taste of what is in these wonderful books. It then becomes easy to pick the book you would like to read more.

Thanks for the recommendations. That link that had all the snippets from the books was great - kudos to who put that together. It sounds like from the replies that I will read The Little Book first. I ordered it along with the Four Pillars and the Bogglehead's guide last night. I am looking forward to reading them all.
