Next Annual Bogleheads Meeting

Post by Dan-Fl »

Morning All,
For planning reasons wondering if we have any dates for the next annual meeting?
Sounded like it was going to be in Philadelphia area. Just wondered what month.

Yes, it will be around Philly in the second half of 2010.

Darn, won't likely be anywhere near Philly around then.

So what happens at these meetings anyway? Is this where the interest rate is set?

Any idea when we'll know the Boglehead annual convention dates in Philly?

Next Boglehead Reunion

Post by Taylor Larimore »

Bogleheads:

We are working with Mr. Bogle and Vanguard to select a time and place convenient for Jack. It is doubtful anything will happen before October.

Check "2010 Boglehead Reunion" in our "Search" box for any announcement.

October in this region (even Philadelphia!) is certainly a nice time of year.

For the joggers, there is Kelly Drive (AKA East River Drive).

For the "Rocky fans", there is the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps that you can run up  ... Better yet, go inside to view one of the largest musems in the U.S.

Whle I don't live there, I did work in center city (next to City Hall) many years ago.

working still

Post by bcboy57 »

I hope the planners of this year's meeting would keep in mind that many, if not most, of those attending may still be in the workforce.

Accordingly , a Friday,Saturday & Sunday meeting would be most appropriate and appreciated by us working stiffs.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing the Bogleheads in 'Philly in the fall'

Best, Doug.

Hi Doug:

While we're certainly sensitive to your request, I must tell you that it's all about Jack Bogle's schedule and wishes, since it just wouldn't be the same without him.

We're working on the final details now, and hopefully we'll be able to make the announcement in the very near future. Stay tuned!

Since Jack's wife wants him to be home for sunday dinner, we could just all have dinner at his house.

What a great idea! Why didn't I think of that? It will certainly help to hold the costs down, too. :D

Actually, when we held our second annual event in Philadelphia a number of years ago, a Boglehead family generously offered to host a BBQ at their family farm near Vanguard. Of course we accepted. Jason Zweig covered that event in a multiple-page story he did for Money Magazine.

Hi Taylor,

It was that article that led me to the Vanguard Diehards on the M* website. I am forever grateful.

Hi Ed and Taylor,

The same was true for me, too. Thanks!

Is that family still a member of this board? We would like to have BBQ at their family farm again. :)

I'm sorry to report that the Boglehead who volunteered his farm died of a massive heart attack while the planning for the prior event was going on. However, his family insisted that the event continue as planned.

You might want to read the Money magazine article that Jason Zweig wrote about that event. Taylor provided a link to it in a post above.

People often picnic in Valley Forge Park which is 10 minutes from Vanguard. There is also Brandywine Park which is a little further but also nice. I had a few company picnics at Brandywine and it was always a good time. (Valley Forge is free but Brandywine charges).

Brandywine link:

I would be happy to offer my backyard for a picnic, but with more than about 10 people it would resemble the wedding reception scene from the movie "Easy Money".

You'll just have to buy a property with a bigger back yard, DT. :D :D

Was Jason's article really written in 2001? Yikes!
I haven't been able to attend a reunion since Chicago, hosted by Morningstar.
Maybe Reunion 10 will be a possibilty.

Hi Ann:

So nice to see your first post on this forum is about our annual get-togethers. How and where have you been? Won't you be able to join us again this year in Philly?

(For those who don't know, Ann was the "bouncer" at our previous event in Philly in 2001 -- all 80 or so pounds of her.)

Still in the same place but scheduling didn't work out for past get-togethers.
Would love to be the bouncer in Phiily again. Maybe, it will work out this year.
Missed you guys.
