New climate bill will impose an excise tax on stock buybacks

Post by beardsicles »

“Ds' $73 billion stock buyback tax would impose a 1% tax on all public firms' purchases of their own shares. (A company buying $100B in its stock would pay $1B in taxes.)”

We’ll see if it passes but as written, could change some market incentives.

Do you know a company that has recently purchased $100B of their own shares?

I assume there is only one company that has done this, and that almost all companies are below $100B market cap
