Portfolio Data Pull Option: TD Ameritrade Real Time Data

Post by runninginvestor »

Hello fellow Bogleheads, I am just sharing a resource that I've found helpful as an alternative to getting an array of portfolio data.
The actionable part of this is to provide another tool for those who wish to monitor their portfolio and positions and have a TD Ameritrade account. (We have one through our HSA.)

This is from TD Ameritrade, specifically their ThinkorSwim product. It pulls Real Time Data (an RTD connection).
This connection I've found most easily usable in Excel, although I think you can use it for Sql DB's as well.
!CAVEAT! to my knowledge, you need to be logged into ThinkorSwim for the connection to work/refresh.

Here's a good overview of the functions and features:

Here's an additional summary of the functions:
https://www.stock-data-solutions.com/re ... os-rtd.htm

Some notes:
1. Provides real time updates on stocks, options, and probably futures;
2. It's kind of handy bc as the PDF summary shows, you can Export your account statement and balances from ToS to Excel and it'll create the RTD formulas for you (which you can copy/paste or change as you wish). So fairly asy to setup;
3. You can pull options chain data, including greeks, by exporting into Excel, for those that do that kind of analysis

I can't recall all of the functionality as I haven't traded much recently, but I do use it now as an alternative source for updating account balances.
