Would love the Bogleheads’ feedback to the update this evening:

The stimulus bill — by far the largest ever proposed — comes with a price tag equivalent to 9% of the nation's gross domestic product and is meant to provide direct financial aid to help individuals, hospitals and businesses. It includes $300 billion for small businesses, $150 billion for local and state governments and $130 billion for hospitals, according to those involved in the negotiation.”

This looks like it is still in the category of proposed legislation. Not yet voted on or signed. Therefore, it is not eligible for discussion here.

I don't get the check as I am above the income cap for 2018, but I guess there isn't an income qualification for the additional Federal unemployment? Also, I am assuming that is taxed at both State and Federal?

This is a bandaid put on a hemorrhaging wound. The primary issue here is a deadly virus that is out of control.
I agree that the infection & mortality rates will have a large impact on the markets over the long term, but I think the stimulus is much more important than a bandaid. The stimulus and the recent actions of the regulators will (hopefully) ease short term illiquidity, and (hopefully) prevent the capital markets from locking up. Generally speaking, my sense is that Main Street doesn't appreciate how much of its fortunes are linked to Wall Street.

The stimulus bounce was yesterday. If people are expecting a 2 day rally, they are likely to be disappointed.
