No Berkshire in SCHV?

Post by MuteHorse » Mon Dec 02, 2019 6:57 pm

I was trying to figure out the difference between VTV and SCHV today and one thing stuck out at me, which is that VTV's top holding is Berkshire Hathaway whereas SCHV does not have a single share of Berkshire. Surely Berkshire is large cap, so could this just be a difference in what each index considers Value?

VTV tracks the "CRSP US Large Cap Value Index."
SCHV tracks the "Dow Jones U.S. Large-Cap Value Total Stock Market Index."

I'd have thought they'd be pretty similar.
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness; Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.

Sure enough BRK.B is in SCHG at 3.01% ... ymbol=SCHG

So probably on the seam with different methodologies between CRSP and Dow Jones as the explanation.
