Who is Mr. Market?
Who is Mr. Market?
I've been reading postings on this board since gekko told me about it from another forum to check it out. Most people seem very knowlegable here and I've learned alot about Mr. Market. However, I have to say that the more I know about the Mr. Market the less I understand about him.
What I do know about him is this:
1. He is generally indecesive. Right now he is very indecesive.
2. He is very emotional at all times and needs professional help.
3. He is efficient to an extent, but has alot of room for improvement because #2 causes him to do stupid things.
4. He tends to be more positive about America than negative, which results in a loss of objectivity.
5. He's a know it all and thinks he can guess what the consumer will do next.
So why do we put our life's earnings in this guy's hands?
Please add to the list!

Actually, Mr. Market doesn't think he knows much about the future at all. That's why his opinion can change so easily; he has little confidence in his own current best estimate. Predicting the future is very hard.bigH wrote:5. He's a know it all and thinks he can guess what the consumer will do next.

Mr. Market got off his lithium in August. In late October he started dabbling in cocaine. His last batch of crack was laced with LSD.stratton wrote:A manic-depressive person who will buy stocks at any price one day and dump them the next, "No price too low, make an offer!"

According to Pogo: "We Have Met The Enemy and He Is Us".
Some have thick wallets or lines of credit, others don't. Some have fast computers crunching billions of numbers, others don't. Some have brains and use common sense, others don't. Some are greedy, and others are fearful. Some have long term horizons, others immediate.
Mr. Market is a maelstrom, all of these people pushing and shoving, jockeying for position in order to better their circumstances in the future.
Mr. Market is us.
