Taylor's new book is #1

Post by Mel Lindauer » Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:39 pm

Hi everyone:

I'm delighted to report that Taylor's new book (The Bogleheads' Guide to the Three-Fund Portfolio) is ranked #1 in the Investing Portfolio Management category on Amazon.

Taylor thanks all those who've purchased the book since the the royalties go to The John C. Bogle Center for Financial Literacy.

That is great. Congrats Taylor.

I wonder what the purpose of https://boglecenter.net/ is.
It looks like a fund raising site.
Does it help support the https://www.bogleheads.org site.

I've heard unsubstantiated rumors that https://www.i-orp.com might be looking for a new home.

I wonder if the bogle people could take this over. It is certainly a very useful site

I got to add to the books Amazon star rating of 4.5/5. Should be 5/5!

The Center's mission is clearly stated on the site you linked to;

"Help us continue Vanguard founder John C. Bogle’s crusade to see that investors get their fair share of market returns and to further our mission to raise the level of financial literacy of all Americans so they can realize their goals and achieve financial freedom.".

The Center can't acomplish that mission without funds, so The Center needs to raise the needed funds. (FYI, all of the officers serve without pay.)
Does it help support the https://www.bogleheads.org site.
Yes.

I wouldn't rule out anything that helps improve financial literacy. However, at the present time, our energies are focused on the upcoming 2018 Bogkeheads Conference.

Thank you for adding to the star rating.

It will be very helpful to the John C. Bogle Center for Financial Literacy if other Bogleheads who like the book will give it a 5-star customer review on Amazon. This is the link:

No disrespect intended, but that looks like a fundraising event.
Thanks for what you and all bogleheads have done.

Edit: I think letting https://www.i-orp.com/aftxcost/index.html go away would be a big mistake to the cause

I had the better half order it for me off his Amazon account 2 weeks ago. I LOVED how it was a quick and easy read! Grabbed the second edition of “Guide to Investing” last week and am almost done with it as well. Next will be the Retirement book.

While I already knew the foundation, I think they’re great reminders and reinforcers for me. I also am trying to rebuild my go-to base of books as many have been loaned to friends & coworkers never to return, lol.

(Four Pillars & House That Bogle Built are two of those that wandered away. 😢).

Five stars from this guy!!!

Seems to me that a book with that sort of content should get a solid 3 stars right in align with the average star rating.... A 4.5 is not tracking to the average well 8-)

Heading over to order....

Congratulations Taylor. It is a big accomplishment to get to 94 years of age. An even bigger accomplishment to be 94 and still writing books and blogging. Many best wishes, Ned.

Hi Mel -

Thanks for the reminder. I just posted a review using my old BH handle "johnny"... I really enjoyed reading Taylor's book!

I just ordered it for my nephew who is graduating this year. We've discussed boglehead investing with him before, but it's a great reminder as he starts his full time work life.

That's a great idea, Katie. I'll plan to do the same for my nephew when he graduates.

I ordered two copies. One grown child has received a copy to read before going to the national conference in Philadelphia for the first time this October.

I wasn’t planning on buying the book since I had a three fund portfolio already... and the forum is dynamic..what else could I possibly learn that’s been repeated on here so many times.. but I’m glad that I did.... learning new things and refreshing to read. So many reference nuggets that are highlighted by other kindle readers already...

Also just realized that I’m one of the “Bogleheads Speak Out” in chapter 5. haha :sharebeer

Thank you Taylor, Mel and BH community!

And finished it. A short but enjoyable read. I don't think I learned anything new (nor did I expect to) but it's always good to have a reminder that simplicity is king. And all profits on the book go to the John C Bogle Center for Financial Literacy, so it's a good cause.
