Took out my ATH during the trading day, but pulled back a bit in the last hour.

I agree, but I saw a lot of negative views when someone suggested QQQ instead of S&P 500 in a different thread yesterday.

Good ole NASDAQ! Tech stocks never go down for longer than a few days! We've reached a permanently high plateau!Marseille07 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 4:10 pmI agree, but I saw a lot of negative views when someone suggested QQQ instead of S&P 500 in a different thread yesterday.

Closed at another ATH in my account. The return of the FAANGs have powered me up this week. I just hope they can deliver in earnings next week..

I have an oversized single-stock position in my portfolio. My portfolio was up much more than normal today, took out my previous All Time High (ATH) during intraday trading, but then pulled back slightly in the last hour of trading.
Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
Ahhh. I see. I got confused about “took out my all time high”. I thought you meant you took something out. But I understand what you mean now. Anywhoo. Congratulations. Ive hit ATH for the last two days now.

Just graph the trend of VTI (US total stock index) from 2001 to today. What could go wrong?!??? It’s parabolic to the moon. I just re-balanced from 80/20 to 70/30. Phew that felt good.

Not terribly different than the rest of the century from that view, well within the trend channel. Sometimes it scrapes the top of that channel, sometimes the bottom, and this thing of ours keeps on going.
2001 - 2012 = basically flat
2012 - present = a nice run but nothing compared to 1982 - 2000 or '49 to '66 or '21 to '29. Third or fourth best run in a century? Meh. It's nice but nothing to panic about.

Honestly, I would never recommend a sector or fund tilted away from the market as a core holding. I don't blame those people.Marseille07 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 4:10 pmI agree, but I saw a lot of negative views when someone suggested QQQ instead of S&P 500 in a different thread yesterday.

Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
Maybe it's because of the short squeeze on GameStop. IJR/IWM both own more than 0.1% of GME

Okay, maybe only 0.2-0.4% but still, as good of story as any

Re: U.S. stocks continue to soar!
I haven't kept detailed records, but my sense of this, after watching for over 15 years is that it evens out over time. Any one day there may be a divergence, but there are also days that diverge in the other direction.

Oh, no doubt. Even though I know better, my mind wants to view QQQ as = to NASDAQ, so on days where the smaller NASDAQ companies outperform the largest 100 in QQQ, there's always an initial moment of confusion.
