Salesforce.com blew out earnings and jumped 25%. I think the tech rally was a product of that - another confirmation that the tech revolution is accelerating. All my FAANGs from me pre-Bogle days were up. Netflix up 11%, FB up nearly 9%.
Wow! Nicely done. Who was that guy who said 'buy what you know.'? Peter Schiff?

Anyhoo, it's amazing that there really is no secret to this market. Buying the biggest, most well-known companies has worked what seems like forever.
For now, yes. I always wonder when the party will stop, but I use all those companies products on a daily basis, so I am inclined to just let them run. Risky, sure, but I'm willing to sit on the risk for now.

I'm not falling for it. It's a trick. Buying QQQ now is a guarantee that area of the market will tank. VTI still enjoys the growth, just not as much growth. When things one day rebalance, I'll have the new outperforming sector.

Oops, I meant VTSAX.
If QQQ tanks, what do you think happens to VTSAX?

False. TD Ameritrade has instant funding and 24 hour trading. Also, the futures market will open soon. More fun than humanly possible.

I'm pretty stoked. Preordered it on Blu-ray. Includes behind the scenes extras of Powell combing his hair.

While "this time is different" is of course the oft repeated phrase of bubble chasers, there is something really different about inflation right now. Under traditional economic models we should have seen a lot more inflation over the last decade than we did. Economists continue to debate why that is the case.

The traditional economic model about what causes inflation is that it is the result of too much currency chasing too few goods. But I think we are realizing that there are other factors at play beyond the money supply, including psychological factors that are hard to account for.

Leaks of what J. Powell is going to say tomorrow about how The Fed is going to approach things including letting the economy run hot (not raise rates) longer than in the past, at least that is my take.

It tanks. . . less. What happens to QQQ if there is a big shift in sector or style performance? It's obviously been a good play to date, but I know my track record on these things.

Yep, leaks also saying he thinks it's different this time, as in the past decade, because of tech. The old industry model of the big names leading the market where companies that drove inflation like the energy sector, industials etc and now we have tech leading the way which has been all about driving down costs which doesn't lead to inflation.

So the economy people see in the stores have shown inflation but the market with leaders like Netflix and Google are about driving down costs to the consumer.

If the year ended today, 2020 would be the 3rd highest year of growth (in dollar terms) for my portfolio since 2010 (when I started tracking it). A pretty surprising result so far, especially considering I retired so my new contributions stopped earlier this year.

Why is the dollar up, TIPS down? Why is Vanguard REIT soaring compared to the S&P--now flat, actually--while the Nasdaq is being beaten down?

Vanguard's fair value CAPE framework indicates US stocks are not in a bubble. See how where we are now compared to dot-com 2000:

S&P 3,500!

Seems like just a few days ago that we touched 3,400 for the first time. :D

I wonder if this is the shortest amount of time between new S&P 100 point milestones. (Yes, I understand that a move from 3400 to 3500 is less than a 3% gain).
