S&P is touching 3,000 again this morning.

Will this be the week where we finally break out to new highs?

3006.72

Solid day. The S&P 500 is still growing strong, but may have given up leadership. EM/REITs looking pretty good.

Futures are UP again for tomorrow, currently at 3012... strong momentum, looks like we are going to break the previous all time highs. Good to see Small Caps performing as well, SCV up 1+% and SCB up 0.9%.

My 30/70 PF made another all-time $ high today. That's happened at least a half-dozen times since mid-July.

S&P is trading at 3012. Continuing to inch up that wall of worry.

Record highs are in sight.

If we're still within 1% of the all time high, which we are, I'd still call that "in sight."

Yeah I know. I just want to root for the underdog here.

Theoretically, if the market has a long term return of 7% and we forget about short-term volatility, it will always achieve all-time high. It's way more excited to root for the free fall... But that's just me.

We’ve been crossing and recrossing the 3000 threshold for over a year now.

I’m ready for a big breakout! Hopefully to the upside.

I like to see my portfolio go up, but when people start counting the chickens before they've hatched it gives me an uneasy feeling.

The efficient market is all about valuating chickens before they're hatched, with an appropriate discount for risk of not hatching.

I'll will have a CD coming due in mid-December and I'm getting out of the CD ladder thing. I'd like to use it to get my equity position from 30% back up to 35%. I will probably end up just easing in, although a substantial market drop would be okay. Whichever way I do it, it won't really change my life.

Today retirement portfolio reached an all-time high. Even more amazing is the balance was after all our withdrawals for expenses this year. And the DOW isn't at an all-time high either at the moment. OTOH, the day isn't over yet.

Holy monkey, looks like this bull isn't dead yet!

Still, tomorrow might bring a swoon. No guarantees up or down.

Being retired, every day is Saturday!

Hopefully the run will continue. I do feel a bit for the accumulators. Though, I'm sure sooner or later they will get to see some stock price level that will give them an opportunity to have their regular contributions buy more shares.

Us accumulators are feeling fine.

I've never understood the thought process of "Man I hope we have another Great Depression with 25% unemployment and bread lines, so I can buy stocks cheap and get REALLY rich".

I have no problems with just getting rich instead of REALLY rich, since there's always a chance that I might fall into that 25% unemployment group (which would make it a lot harder to "buy stocks cheap!")

I'm not wishing anything on anybody. I think, based on posts here, some recent accumulators are questioning the wisdom of buying with ever increasing higher prices. But, as I said, they will certainly get the chance to add more when the prices are lower, which will be; ummm, no idea when.

I am retired but I am accumulating as well.

But, no, I don't have the thought process that would welcome anything you have identified, just to be absolutely clear. I believe you read much into it.

I do feel a bit for the accumulators.

Oh sorry, I wasn't saying YOU were saying that...

Other people have wished for a big crash though...

I was just letting you know that at least THIS accumulator is feeling perfectly fine watching his portfolio grow today.

I'll take a slow upwards trajectory any day... :sharebeer

Nobody knows if they’ll get a chance to buy when prices are lower. They may never be lower.

My accumulations are doing fine; especially the VTI, at 131.10, I bought on June 3, 2019. If I didn't buy every month that would be market timing.

S&P is backing up a little bit from its earlier-day high points.

Getting ready for a push to a new record close today? Or deferring that push until next week?

Mr Market will tell us in about an hour.

I never market time, I always rebalance! Market timing is frowned upon. Rebalancing,
OTOH, is legitimate. :D

One nice thing about keeping an AA of about 50% equities, and 50% bonds is it is easy to find the need to market time rebalance.

I understand it extremely well. It's important to steel your nerves at the right time. Some people are going to need encouragement at the right time.

I am going to jinx this by saying I could see another 8% by the end of the year (dodges rotting fruit thrown from the bleachers.)

Investing can be so painful, but also so much fun. It's like rotisserie baseball with index funds, except an average year usually means you're winning!
I look at this and think of all the wise men who started predicting 4% or 5% CAGR about 5 years ago...

There's a difference between being ready for it, and WISHING for it.

History doesn't repeat exactly, it only rhymes. People wishing for a big crash don't know what they will actually get. I certainly hope they don't expect 2009 every time. That quick bounce back is not guaranteed.

I'm all stock except for my venture capital fund. I can't rebalance but I can buy the dips. I do miss rebalancing but bonds are a guarantied real loss.

Same as always. Keeping buying. Ignore the noise.
