Vanguard's New Podcast Series

Post by Mel Lindauer » Tue Mar 13, 2018 5:26 pm

Hi Everyone:

Vanguard has started a series of podcasts, and I was honored to be interviewed for the first podcast. The Bogleheads are featured prominently in the podcast.

Here's a link to the audio podcast as well as a written transcript for those who would rather read than listen. Enjoy.

Thank you for the link to the podcast.

I just read the transcript [in this way I don't miss anything, I can always go back and read it again].

Muchas gracias por leer ~cfs~

Mel,
I just listened to the podcast and enjoyed your part of it, I wish your interview was longer ... and thanks for everything you and others do on the Bogleheads!

Thanks, Mel. I listened this morning and enjoyed it. For some reason, I was amused by the Mel Lindauer disclaimer at the end. :beer

Is there a good way to subscribe to this podcast series through something like Podkicker (which I use for podcasts I listen to)?

Apparently you can subscribe to the series. At the end of the podcast, Vanguard says:
Joel Dickson: Or, simply subscribe to our series and you won’t miss an episode.

You mean the part about the Bogleheads and Mel Lindauer not being associated with Vanguard and the views expressed are not necessarily those of Vanguard? I think that's a standard legal disclaimer and didn't feel offended by it in the least. Agree with you, though, that's it is a bit funny.

The future podcasts will include other Boglehead authors and experts as well, since part of the series was recorded at Vanguard's studios during the 2017 Bogleheads Conference. I think Allan Roth, Christine Benz from Morningstar, and others, also did podcasts while attending the Conference. Stay tuned!

It's very standard, and I don't know why it struck me as funny, except that it was rather early in the morning. :beer

I suspect you found it amusing because we Bogleheads and our thoughts are so very much aligned with Vanguard that we're often accused of being on Vanguard's payroll.

Life’s short and my list of podcast subscriptions long (and now thanks to this thread longer). So I hit the “next” button when the hosts were starting to wrap up. Never heard the disclaimer ;)

Anyway, nice conversation with Mel.

Done so. I was able to find it (and a surprising number of other podcasts, some not interesting to me and not about investing) when I searched "Vanguard." Thanks!

Looks like you can only subscribe to it through Apple Podcasts/iTunes right now. I sent them a comment, suggesting they make it available on Stitcher and other non-Apple platforms.

Can you add the RSS feed? I'm using PocketCasts on Android (not Itunes) and it works fine for me.

For kicks I installed Podkicker and was able to manually add via the above link. Hope this helps.

I, too, use an app called PocketCast that is available on multiple platforms (the reason I selected it initially) and synchronizes what I have subscribed to and the status of individual episodes across devices. This was important to me since I use an iPad (iOS) and a Pixel (Android). Anyways, I was able to subscribe to it a few days ago on that platform.

Very nice! I've subscribed and it'll be in my listening rotation.
