Charitable donations through Betterment

Post by CABob » Sun Dec 03, 2017 2:35 pm

I recently received correspondence about Betterment's process for donating securities from an account. I'm not a Betterment client but the correspondence implied that the process was more convenient than what is offered through other financial institutions. Can anyone share information about the process and does Betterment have a better mouse trap?

I'm not familiar with Betterment, but donating appreciated shares to a charity is pretty darn straightforward. Many of the larger charities can easily handle stock donations. If that isn't good enough, consider a Donor Advised Fund with Vanguard, Schwab, or Fidelity. VERY easy to set up and VERY easy to donate securities to. Maybe Betterment built ANOTHER mouse trap - hard to see how it would be significantly better than what's already available
