Morning Wave's Telltale Charts

Post by bertilak » Tue Aug 08, 2017 2:43 pm

I used to be able to plot "telltale" charts at http://morning-wave-7809.herokuapp.com/.

Now it no longer works. I can get to the web site and fill in the fields but no charts show up.

I thought it might have something to do with my browser's cookies but three different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge) all get the same results. I also deleted cookies for that domain without any effect.

How is that site working for you?
Listen very carefully. I shall say this only once.

Maybe someone should contact member simpleton about it:

Care to explain the Telltale chart to a dummy?
simpleton wrote:(1) What do the number on the y-axis represent?

The ratio of the two portfolio values, assuming all dividends are reinvested.

(2) When it's portfolio x vs portfolio y; which is the denominator? Or am I even thinking about it correctly?

    Discussion at viewtopic.php?f=10&t=225289.
He has not been active since January 2016. I hope all is well.

Four days and my PM sits in my outbox, unread.

Don't know anything about Morning Wave, but StockCharts.com has telltale charts tools, they just don't use the same terminology (they speak of relative strength). Their PerfCharts are really cool, with a simple click, you can switch from a growth chart representation to a telltale chart representation.

And of course, our own Simba backtesting spreadsheet includes the ability to generate a telltale chart between a handful of portfolios.

Finally, we recently created a Wiki page about telltale charts, this might be of interest.
