Taylor, Thank You for the link to Jack's statement.
His words are always appreciated.

"Investing" is not meant to be "short term" trading.

The "active" fund managers are gonna fight the indexing concept for a long, long time.
Their wealth (not their clients wealth) depends on it.

Here's a potential paradox: if we ever actually were in a situation where index fund assets were so large that there were short-term distortions in stock prices lingering longer than "normal", would you rather be staying the course in an index fund, or actively trading in potentially mispriced securities with Giant-Squids on the other side of the trades?

Thanks! I've also been hearing this argument against index funds, in a down market, a lot more lately on some podcast I listen to. Not that I would ever sell :)

I still don't think I'd be able to figure out what the mispriced securities are; even if I could, I doubt the gain would be worth the time I'd spend and the money I'd risk. Unless it were something absurd like 100% of equities held my index funds, and then, only maybe and someone would likely beat me to it.
