Late 50's. Have 65% equities and 35% bonds if TIAA Real Estate Account is ignored. If it is included, then 60% equities, 8% TREA, and 32% fixed income. I see no reason to change this asset allocation as I get older.

41,33. 80% equities/20% fixed income. I don't ever see myself going below 60/40 but who knows...

Age 40. 70/30, with 30% stocks in international. Current plan is to keep it there until age 50, and increase bonds to 35-40% if my numbers are on track.

Age 49

73/27 - I couldn't decide between 70/30 and 75/25 so I roughly split the difference.

Age 78 - and 70% equities.

For most of my "investing career" I was happy with 50%-60% equities. It was a, "Let's make sure we have enough and not lose a whole lot kind of mindset". These days we have well more than enough and no need to take any risk.

Excluding taxes, SS and a small pension take care of all of our needs and wants. Our annuity payments are simply reinvested in municipal bonds.

After tax loss harvesting in 2008/2009 I have let the equity position grow, with only occasional rebalancing to bonds. Except for redirecting dividends these days, I am probably finished rebalancing out of equities - absent a perceived equity bubble. And absent an equity crash, I probably won't rebalance into equities either.

So the 70% equities is intended to benefit my heirs. If it goes to 75% or 80% equities, I will rethink the position. It is always easier to invest with "other peoples money".

Thanks shipmate TC101 for asking a good question.

After a good LUng distance workout I am ready to add my two cents here.

Retired, age 63 and counting.

My boring SWAN (sleep well at night) portfolio is holding steady at 48/52.

That is 48 percent equities and 52 percent in bonds and cash reserves.

Note, this is just above Rick Ferri's recommended Center of Gravity for Retirees--but my SWAN works for me.

Oh by the way, all three buckets (divided by age 62-72, 72-82, 82-EOL) are doing fine YTD.

Age 68. Retired 3 years exactly. 50/50. Withdrawal method is bonds first; have enough for 10 years.

Age 72 (in a couple of months)

As my tag line says,
10% cash
45% bonds
45% stocks -- of which, 25% is international, 10% is small value

I had been hiding out in large value stock funds for first 10 years of retirement, and to some extent still am, but have increased international and added small value since December. There is a bundle in a short term bond fund that I would love to put in stocks but it would be a really dumb move at this point.
17% cash 47% stock 36% bond. Retired, w/d rate 2.85%

59 1/2, 45/50/5. 35% stocks are internat. Liability matching until SS at 66-70, then higher stock alloc. Avert sequence of returns risk. Concerned of inflation. Home insurance raised 30% in Jan. 65/68.
Hard saying. Moved 50% of monies into deferred "bad" annuities in 2008-2012. Essentially we bought a pension. The remainder of funds are in Indexes and trading accounts. So in-total we have a pension, with inflation and deflation protection, and a good chance of improving the whole Lot.

With over 60 responses to date, there's enough data to make a crude regression analysis of Bogleheads' age versus their stock allocations (chart below). Just for fun, by comparing one's own age and stock allocation to the trend line, investors can roughly gauge whether their stock allocation is more or less conservative than the average Boglehead.

Image
Note: In cases of paired investors, the age is the average of the two.

PS. Just eyeballing the chart, it appears the Boglehead average trend line is about "age-20" in bonds.

Ages 40 & 36

60% stocks (60% U.S.)
40% bonds

We will probably stay at this allocation until retirement; then go to 50/50.

It's likely that, instead of you being overly conservative, the average Boglehead is being a bit more aggressive in this day and age (and interest rate environment!). Mr. Bogle has famously recommended "age in bonds" for most portfolio allocations (quote below) — however, according to the thread responses so far, the average Boglehead is nearly "age minus 20" in bonds today, a much more aggressive stance.
John C. Bogle in Common Sense on Mutual Funds, pp. 87-88 wrote:Long before the crash, I had fine-tuned my rule-of-thumb asset allocation model, centered at 50/50 for older investors in the distributions phase of their investment plan. Rather, I recommended -- as a crude starting point -- that an investor's bond position should be equal to his or her age. An investor age 65, then, would consider the propriety of a 65/35 bond/stock allocation. Clearly, such a rule must be adjusted to reflect an investor's objectives, risk tolerance, and overall financial position.

Age 69.

AA 50/50

Additional info: I have a great pension so between it and SS all my normal(*) living expenses are covered. This means I have lots of flexibility in my AA. I picked 50/50 because I could see no compelling reason to tilt either way. I think of it as two portfolios: 100% stocks and 100% bonds. One or the other MUST be the best choice!

(*)NOTE: I have had some abnormal expenses lately -- $30K spent on new septic system, wedding to attend in Germany, and a couple of other things. These all came up within a year of each other. So, had to treat my overall portfolio as my emergency fund. Withdrew about $34K but portfolio only down about $24K due to growth over same time period. Cash flow should smooth out from here on. (fingers crossed)

Not only are Bogleheads' stock allocations higher than they were in 2009, they appear to be even higher now than they were in 2007, before the stock market meltdown (chart below) — based on the data linked to above by ruralavalon, from previous Boglehead polls on the same question.

It's understandable — as interest rates have fallen lower, stock allocations have nudged higher.

TS,

In my case, I was 70/30... Now, I am shifted to 64/36.. If and when my portfolio gets bigger, I will probably glide to 60/40.. So, in my case, as the stock market goes higher and if my portfolio hit a threshold number, I am shifting to lower stock ratio...

Here is data on the percentage of stocks from 2007 & 2011, " % Stocks vs Age".

Looks like a difference of 5% or less for all age groups and all time periods. Not a very impressive shift.
