Taylor,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your loving wife, Pat. My prayers and best wishes are with you and your family.
Although, we may never completely free ourselves of the sadness of losing a loving soul mate, may time afford you the chance of replacing some of that sadness with the many fond memories you and Pat created together.
[Thank you for sharing the video, Pat truly was a remarkable woman.]

Taylor, thank you for sharing this video. Your son did a wonderful job making it. I'll remember Pat for her sincere smile, sweet demeanor and good cooking! Her wonderful Floridian meal at your condo for Bogleheads 1 (aka "Diehards 1) is something I shall never forget. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. A real treasure for sure. Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your dear Pat.

Hi Taylor:

In Memoriam (for Pat Larimore)

I Knew a Woman
By Theodore Roethke 1908–1963

I knew a woman, lovely in her bones,
When small birds sighed, she would sigh back at them;
Ah, when she moved, she moved more ways than one:
The shapes a bright container can contain!
Of her choice virtues only gods should speak,
Or English poets who grew up on Greek
(I’d have them sing in chorus, cheek to cheek).

How well her wishes went! She stroked my chin,
She taught me Turn, and Counter-turn, and Stand;
She taught me Touch, that undulant white skin;
I nibbled meekly from her proffered hand;
She was the sickle; I, poor I, the rake,
Coming behind her for her pretty sake
(But what prodigious mowing we did make).

Love likes a gander, and adores a goose:
Her full lips pursed, the errant note to seize;
She played it quick, she played it light and loose;
My eyes, they dazzled at her flowing knees;
Her several parts could keep a pure repose,
Or one hip quiver with a mobile nose
(She moved in circles, and those circles moved).

Let seed be grass, and grass turn into hay:
I’m martyr to a motion not my own;
What’s freedom for? To know eternity.
I swear she cast a shadow white as stone.
But who would count eternity in days?
These old bones live to learn her wanton ways:
(I measure time by how a body sways).

Sir,

Thank you for posting the video. The outpouring of support from this site is indicative of how many people have been helped by you and Pat.

Thanks again, and I hope you savor in the memories and enjoy life to the fullest, as I would want my spouse to do when I move on.

Late to this thread.

Taylor-- it sounds like you had a long and happy marriage. That is something to be treasured. Whilst you remember and honour your wife, she is dead, but not truly gone. She lives on in that way-- the only immortality any of us have.

One hopes that you will be reunited in some future-- but that's something religions do not agree upon. Death has its own unalterable certainty in the here-and-now.

Perhaps I could finish these inadequate thoughts with 2 quotes, the first from Kalil Gibran's The Prophet
On Death
Than Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."
And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the sheered not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink form the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
The second from our old friend Ecclesiastes:
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
Sounds like it was Pat Larrimore's time to go. All we can do is wish her well on her way.
