Or, are you not supposed to pronounce it and instead say 'assets under management'?

Aay - You - Em.

Similar to "CPA," except with different letters.

AUM (all caps intended) can be read as a phonetic spelling of Om; in Hinduism, Om is a mystical concept that refers to the sound that resonates within the universe. More here:

Neither's an acronym.

(Now: before LadyGeek steps in, I'll ask: how is this actionable?)

"Aaay-You-Emm, ah, uh, I mean: Assets Under Management" as in "They charge 1% of Aaay-You-Emm, ah, uh, I mean: Assets Under Management."

Or "o-u-mu" (オウム), like the terrorist group, depending on how you feel about financial advisers who charge by AUM.

By pursing ones lips and ... .

Seriously, standard terminology aids communication, and pronunciation is part of this.

The AUM sound navigates chakra energy through your left (A) channel, right (U) channel and centers your energy through the center (M) channel. It helps to achieve effortless meditation state. Did you ever wondered why monks or any other group of people who meditate say OM and not AUM? :)

Aay - You - Em.
AUM, same pronunciation, different acronym: In western states with public rangelands, it means Animal Unit Month, AUM - that's how ranchers are charged for grazing cattle or sheep on public land. Really!

Your supposed to take what you learn on the forum and make use of it in real life.

Although LadyGeek could close the thread as having run it's course.

Depends on your definition of acronym. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym for more than you probably want to know.

I have never pronounced it, and I never will. Where do I vote on the value of this thread?
What the forum needs really badly is the ability to up-vote.

Oops, my bad. I only want to vote down.

Depends on your definition of acronym. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym for more than you probably want to know.
I'm using the definition that agrees with the etymology of the word: an initialism (acro-) that's pronounced as a word (-nym). Like NASA, and SCUBA, and PLOB.
