Mr. Glassman has apparently resurfaced:

Ain't it something? It's already been noted and discussed here.

But it's important to notice a difference. The original book made what was unquestionably a prediction. They are now saying they never said when, but the uncertainty was... bounded. The verbatim quote from their book is: "How soon? The rational time frame is this afternoon. But the process will take longer as understanding spreads about the true risk of stocks. A sensible target date for Dow 36,000 is early 2005, but it could be reached much earlier than that."

In my opinion it's also important to notice his current affiliation, noted at the end of the original article: he heads an institute, self-described as an "action-oriented think tank" that is in the business of advocating policy changes.

The new article is not making a prediction. It says Dow 36,000 is attainable. But it is clear that what he is saying is that it will not be attained automatically as things stand. "To get it, we need policy changes..." So it is no longer a sure thing, but rather is the promised reward for policy changes... probably policy changes advocated by his institute, although I haven't actually bothered to verify that.

Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness; Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.

So if Mr. Glassman's proposed policy changes are not instituted, the claim is the Dow will never get to 36,000, not in 100 years? Lol!

Sorry I missed the earlier thread and reposted.

While we're on the topic of market forecasts, I would like to go on the record as predicting that my portfolio will increase in value at some point in the future. Perhaps I can leverage this in to a book deal.

Regards,

Hoi

I may start a hedge fund based on what this guy says. Hedge it by doing what Schiff says with the other half.
