401k Help

Post by MattInCali »

Longtime lurker, first-time poster here. I'm seeking some advice on my 401k allocation.

I'm aiming for 85-90% in equities and 10-15% in bonds.

How would bogleheads choose among the following options, if this 401K were your only investment vehicle? I'm agnostic on how much foreign stock to hold. Is JP Morgan Growth a good target date fund? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pimco Total Return (GER: .71%)

American Funds Amer H/I (GER: 1.02%)

MattInCali, if the 401k were the only investment vehicle, then I would use Fidelity Spartan 500 Index (0.10%) for US stocks, and either PIMCO Total Return (0.71%) or American Century Inflation Adj (0.28%) for bonds. I would skip the rest.

However, judging by the later post, since it's not the only investment vehicle, I would choose only Fidelity Spartan 500 Index (0.10%) and use the other accounts to fill in the missing mid/small caps, international, and bonds.

As for the target date funds, they're expensive and complicated. See here for an example.

As Duckie said best funds in 401 are 500 index,Pimco and American century inflation
taxable is OK (500 index)
Ira: international, extended market index
15% bonds 20 international 15% extended 50% 500 index
I would really consider more bonds
Good luck
John
Edit, maybe consider I bonds for some EF
