Surprise! 2024 Schwab taxable account 1099s available!
Just an FYI -- the 1099 Composite forms which (for me) usually aren't available until mid-February are now available for 2024! I guess I'll be doing taxes tonight!

The 1099 is ready for our taxable account at Schwab as well. It's a simple account that only holds VTI.

We have a simple Schwab taxable account with no trades. No 1099 yet.
update: 12 minutes later and 1099 is now available

Same with me.
On investing; I have lots of questions, many opinions, and little knowledge. A dangerous combination. Be warned.

Looks like the 1099's are only for accounts with no Dec Trades. Accounts with Dec trades say 2/14.
Re: Surprise! 2024 Schwab taxable account 1099s available!
My checking account has the 1099INT, my IRA has tax forms available but not my regular taxable brokerage account. That is still 2/14.

I had a December trade (bought ETF shares) in my taxable brokerage account, and I just printed off my tax form.

It isn't that.RetiredAL wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 6:11 pm Looks like the 1099's are only for accounts with no Dec Trades. Accounts with Dec trades say 2/14.

Whether or not it is ready has to do with what you are holding in it - not the last trades you made.

I manage my elderly mom’s account, and I see that her 1099 is now available - OP, thanks for the heads up. Her activity was limited to ordinary dividends and interest income throughout the year, plus one trade in April for the IVV S&P 500 ETF.
My availability is still showing as February 14.

I guess I'm special, or s_l_o_w: The statement with a Vanguard REIT says 2/28. The other with December sales is 2/14.
Re: Surprise! 2024 Schwab taxable account 1099s available!
My Vanguard account had been saying the Tax Statement would be ready by Jan 29. I just looked and it now says by Feb 22.

Distributions from REIT must be characterized as qualified dividend, not qualified, return of capital (which reduces basis). We see many corrected ones, so we generally recommend waiting until March to file with those.boomer_techie wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:49 amI guess I'm special, or s_l_o_w: The statement with a Vanguard REIT says 2/28. That is very odd. Vanguard Real Estate, and REITs in general are usually mostly nonqualified dividend ( also referred to as ordinary dividends ).trueblueky wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:00 am

Even the Vanguard Global ex-U.S. Real Estate Index Fund Admiral Shares VGRLX was only 16.11% qualified dividend income ( QDI ).

I'd say REIT distributions in general are mostly return of capital, which reduces basis.VanGar+Goyle wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:38 amThat is very odd. Before I knew better I held the Vanguard REIT fund in taxable. And every year I would get my 1099 followed several weeks later by a 1099c.trueblueky wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 12:39 pmI'd say REIT distributions in general are mostly return of capital, which reduces basis.VanGar+Goyle wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:38 am

My Dad's Wells Trade account had a REIT. Almost very year, one or more corrected 1099 was issued, sometimes as late at April 1. The corrections were always less than 50 cents and were always a downward adjustment. It was a PIA and when I 100% took over managing his financial affairs, I sold it.trueblueky wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:00 amDistributions from REIT must be characterized as qualified dividend, not qualified, return of capital (which reduces basis). Across the 14 years for which I have the distributions breakdown for Vanguard's VNQ ETF, there have been qualified dividends, long term capital gain distributions, return of capital, section 1250 payments, and section 199A payments.VanGar+Goyle wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:38 am That is very odd. Is that true for the last 2 or 5 years? I only see Dividends and much smaller return of capital.boomer_techie wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 2:52 amAcross the 14 years for which I have the distributions breakdown for Vanguard's VNQ ETF, there have been qualified dividends, long term capital gain distributions, return of capital, section 1250 payments, and section 199A payments.VanGar+Goyle wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:38 am That is very odd.
