When you move a Vanguard fund from Vanguard to Fidelity, do you lose its past purchase, gain/loss history and cost basis?
If you sell it in the future does tax get calculated properly?

I transferred all Covered Shares and the cost basis info eventually transferred completely and accurately.

Covered shares should transfer because that's part of the law as I understand and noncovered doesn't matter that much but you can make a record of any of those before you transfer then adjust at fidelity.

Looks like that's the case.
Just transferred VBIAX, a covered asset.
Also found out there's no fee charged for dividend/capital gains reinvestment.

Re: Vanguard to Fidelity Transferred Asset History
We transferred both covered and non-covered shares from VG to Fidelity a few weeks ago and purchase history/cost basis for each lot transferred, including for each of 3 non-covered lots of a fund. We did have SpecID as our cost basis method at VG at the time the assets were transferred to Fidelity.
For TRP and Dodge and Cox, all cost basis transferred and the covered lot history/cost basis are shown individually. All non-covered lots of a fund were lumped into a single "lot" with a generic non-covered purchase date and a total cost basis. I did grab screenshots from those prior accounts showing the non-covered individual lots and their cost basis so I plan to see if I can update them online.
