403 B help RE: Templeton Funds

Post by HotRod140 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 3:13 pm

well we had a rep in our office today. small office 20 people. They are offering Franklin Templeton Fund family. "R" shares on all thier funds. which means no load. However all the funds have high expenses. Anyone know anything about this fund family. For some people (not me) this will be thier only retirement money. Thanks for any help. I was screaming for Vanguard, but no one was listening. Should I stay away?

Not enough information to answer well.
But if there's an employer match, in most cases you probably would be better off if you contribute.

If not, then you'll have to do the math. :)

Essentially, one has to consider present and possible future tax rates, Roth eligibility, number of years of investment, how long you expect to stay with the employer, as well as expense ratios and a few other items that I'm undoubtedly forgetting.

Good luck,
