Hello everyone!
I'm looking for a good/legitimate TLH partner for EDV. What do folks use?
TLT or GVOZ both follow a different index (ICE index) vs EDV (Barclay index). Would either be appropriate?
Many thanks!
TLH Partner for EDV?
Re: TLH Partner for EDV?
Yahoo finance thinks GOVZ and EDV are competitors, so should be a good TLH partner ...

yahoo finance wrote: GOVZ will compete with the nearly $2 billion Vanguard Extended Duration Treasury ETF (EDV), which invests in 20- to 30-year Treasury STRIPS and also comes with an expense ratio of 0.07%. It launched in late 2007.
Re: TLH Partner for EDV?
ZROZ @ 0.15% ER. ZROZ had no cap gains to distribute this year vs EDV distributing 3% of NAV (~1/3 short term).

Re: TLH Partner for EDV?
There is some good discussion on EDV and TLH in this thread on the benefits of TLH in a rising rate environment: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=322058
If you have to ask "Is a Target Date fund right for me?", the answer is "Yes" (even in taxable accounts).

Re: TLH Partner for EDV?
I was looking to maybe TLH some EDV losses... so are we sure that EDV vs GOVZ does not constitute a wash sale?
Re: TLH Partner for EDV?
GOVZ holds 25-30 year STRIPS, while EDV holds 20-30 year STRIPS. The difference in maturity/duration should be enough to avoid a wash sale.occambogle wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 12:27 am I was looking to maybe TLH some EDV losses... so are we sure that EDV vs GOVZ does not constitute a wash sale?
For what it's worth, ZROZ also targets 25-30 year, so GOVZ and ZROZ might not be safe to TLH with each other.
