Second market dip in 2020 ?

Post by sheroo »

Looks like market dipping again in 2020. Is "correction" the right terminology for this market dip ?
Any thoughts on any changes anyone may be making to investments? My apologies if this question is not in the spirit of Bogleheadian philosophy.

if I hit a re-balance point, I will move some money from bonds to stocks.

Correction = > 10% drop. Not there yet. Europe looks like it will get there soon. Increase in COVID w/talks of new lockdowns and banking scandals in the news = down market. I sold some short term treasury fund and added some US and International equities index funds this morning. Will do the same tomorrow if market continues to drop.

The current value, which is a significant drop from market opening a few hours ago, might be the lowest the market is for the rest of my life. I have no way to know. Neither does anyone else.

What looks like is gonna happen next i.e. predictions of what is to come, is often so wrong, so unreliable, that it's best to click the ignore button on such.

As always the case, "nobody knows nothing."

Most folks who pretend they know want to sell you something.

Thank you for all the responses, i appreciate it.
The general thought process seems to be stay the course or buy more.
I agree that there is no way for us to predict how deep/shallow the dip may be or how long the recovery may take. I will plan to stay the course.
BTW, i didn't make any changes during March dip. Keeping fingers crossed.

If you have extra money buy your favorite stocks/ETFs..

VTI is available ~10% discount compared to 9/1 price.

Things are moving. The stock market tends to do that. Having a single volatile day does not make a dip and it is probably not actionable unless you have a specific view on rebalancing.
