New Company offering investment advice

Post by Sahara »

A new firm in Upstate New York offers portfolio review: https://www.seedpg.com/portfolio-review/
and a $4,600 flat charge to advise you on the management of up to $1,000,000 investments on your own: https://www.seedpg.com/investment-program/you-manage/

Is anyone familiar with this firm? Does anyone have an opinion on whether this might be a suitable place for a second opinion?
Disclosure - I have no relationship with this firm.

Thanks in advance.

THIS IS THE PLACE TO GET A SECOND OPINION free of charge.

But if you will, please wire the $4600 to my Citibank account, thank you.

Seriously, they seem to have 20 qualified (expensive) people on the payroll, and they have many other assessment and evaluation offerings in the few-hundred-dollars range. Why not choose one of those reviews, and then make a judgement if you are happy with their performance?

This offer could be compared to this one as an example: https://rickferri.com/investors/

Note ten hours with Ferri would cost $4500 and a "second opinion" is $750. The two options seem to pretty well overlap.

Disclaimer (naturally): I have neither connection nor experience with either.

In theory the opportunity to get this kind of "hands off" advisory service without having an account or paying AUM is what Bogleheads would say has been lacking in the business for a long time. Probably the red flag is that they do offer AUM advising at typical rates and one might have to be very resistant to pressure. It is not as if other advisors, such as Fidelity or even VPAS do not do the same thing. Note if you have over $4M they charge less than VPAS does or maybe VPAS gets cheaper too at that level.

I see this service offered:
INDIVIDUAL SECURITIES: ASSIGN A PRICE TO VALUE AS OVERPRICED, FAIR PRICED, OR UNDERPRICED

We review your individual securities and provide you guidance as to whether each one is over, under, or fair priced.

This helps you identify investment and risk management opportunities.
That tells me they're full of it.

I am not familiar with this firm.

I don't see anything wrong with having a professional portfolio review. It may be valuable depending on their investing philosophy.

What is their view of the importance of diversification, low costs, indexing, tax-efficiency etc.? I could not tell from their website.

You can get a second opinion on Bogleheads if you post your financial details like this: "Asking Portfolio Questions" .

Three resources for finding a fee only fiduciary planner are:
1) Garrett Planning Network;
2) National Association of Personal Financial Advisors; and
3) Advice-Only Financial. This is a service by Harry Sit, a financial blogger who sometimes posts here.
