Vanguard Fund with FAANG?

Post by JSparks » Wed Mar 25, 2020 9:27 am

Does Vanguard have a mutual fund (for my 401k) that has FAANG? I don't want to buy it as VGT through my taxable account.

Have you looked at the top 5 holdings of your S&P 500 fund, or are you really only trying to buy exclusively FAANG / tech companies?

VTI
VV
VOO

Alternative is stop buying VGT in taxable and use that in 401k.

VGT and the associated fund don't have Facebook or Amazon.

Assuming you want the highest concentration, probably VIGAX for a fund or MGK for an ETF.

You want a FAANG fund, I suggest Fidelity. Check out FOCPX. Top 5 of 6 holdings are FAANG (+ Microsoft)

VIGAX will give it to you but 9% of the fund is Microsoft, and you'll hold more Visa, Mastercard, Home Depot, and Comcast then you will Netflix. If you really just want FAANG, you should just buy five stocks instead of an index fund. I use VGT and VUG to give me a very strong tilt toward Apple and Microsoft, but to really overweight Amazon, Google, and Facebook, you need to just buy those stocks. VOX and VCR (Vanguard ETFs led by Google & Facebook (VOX) and Amazon (VCR)) hold too many other companies that I expect you don't want. I don't know of a fund that overweights Netflix.

IGM is the one I use that has all the FAANG stocks along with Microsoft.

I just found Shelton's NASDX fund in the line up available on my 401k. The list of holdings better matches what I've wanted. Expenses aren't bad either. I was hoping to see something like these holding ratios in a Vanguard fund.

Any thoughts?

I know OP asks for a mutual fund, but others have already posted replies with ETFs, so - MGK.

It is more heavily weighted in the technology sector:
1 Microsoft Corp.
2 Apple Inc.
3 Amazon.com Inc.
4 Alphabet Inc.
5 Facebook Inc.

It also doesn't include Netflix or Google. The only FAANG it actually does include is Apple.

Thanks HyperChicken, I was going to invest in VUG(ETF version of VIGAX), but this is exactly what I wanted, less number of stocks(112), and includes the ones I prefer, including tesla and costco

Another thumbs up for Hyperchicken from me as well.
MGK appears to be exactly what I was looking for and the fees on it are excellent. :sharebeer

And yet MGK has underperformed Fidelity's FOCPX over every period (1, 3, 5, 10, etc). Sometimes fees are worth paying.
