How much you lost/gain since Feb 20,2020 ?

Hey pokebowl. Can't imagine losses on that level. Been saving for a down payment. Hoping I can get 20% saved ($58K in 3 more years of saving). Signed up with the HI Homeownership center. Hoping they can be a good resource. Such a grind out here.

I am happy to report, I've since made all those losses back and then some since the time of my initial post.

The best course of action when the market is in a state of panic is often inaction.

Up about 6% for the year as of Friday. Never would've believed it would end up being a positive year back in April, but I'll take it.

Up 15%, but that includes contributions. Without contributions it's about 10-11%.

Up 50%+ because I jumped onto shorting the market at that time. Was a wild ride for sure.

Fidelity says SP 500 is up 14% and mine is 24.75% however I have individual stocks only in taxable at 70% on VOO and 30% in individual stocks allocation.
Little unrealistic but not blaming of recovery. When market fell off, i keep adding to maintain the 70% on VOO and 30% on single stocks.
I did my last buy exactly on March dip on that day

My 30/70 portfolio is up about 5% for the year. But, I also acquired one new house, substantially paid down other mortgages, and added two years of living expenses to the liquid portfolio.

Financially, 2020 was my second best year ever. 2019 will likely forever be my peak earning year, as I chose to semi-retire in December 2019 in my early 40’s.

80% of my total holdings (all pre-tax, roth) are just in total world stock market index funds, together those are up 15% on the year. A few things that helped alittle bit:

- In March / April I frontloaded my 401k contributions to 15k, remainder used to capture company match to year end
- In March we frontloaded our Roth IRA contributions
- Frontloaded HSA

This year was the first we frontloaded contributions, due to the drop but I think we will continue in the future. Looking at the basis for the Roth IRA contributions, those hit in March 16th and while that wasn't quite the bottom the basis on the purchases was $60/share for VT, now up over 50%...on total world stock index! All Luck obviously, but still pretty neat

I do have about 15% of my total investable assets in a non-boglehead strategy as a net options premium seller on indexes. That account is up 32% , however it is a taxable account the gains are all short term (taxed as ordinary income for the year).

I got lucky. I had pulled a lot of money out last fall, as I thought the market was overinflated. Obviously I had no idea that Covid was about to wreak havoc on the market. We also had some cash from a recent sale of a rental property. I managed to deploy most of the cash near the bottom in March/April. It paid off. I’m up 18.7% in my 401K and a whole lot more in my taxable account for the year. After the 2008 crash I learned a lot of lessons. I didn’t have much money to invest then, but I always said I would be ready for the next big one. It wasn’t perfect and I left too much on the sidelines out of an abundance of caution, but I’m pretty happy with the results. Going forward, I think I will always have a bit of cash(leverage) on the sidelines for times when the market seems overinflated(like now ).

We were at a low point in April. Had lost about $500k.
Just checking on it today we gained all that back plus $350K.
Never took any money out, never readjusted our AA. We continued to add $2K monthly as we have been for the last few years.
Staying the course seems to have worked so far.
Still on track for retirement in two years or less. Hopefully.

I went from 60-40 to 80-20. It has been a good run. As per my IPS, 10% was just P/E rebalancing. Another 10% trigger point was for VSS to hit 72.9 which it did on march 16th.

My roth accounts have taken the most benefit. When we bought our home in 2019, I moved bonds to roth to increase liquidity. However I could not pull myself to do roth contribution in March and chose to keep cash to keep liquidity. Hindsight is just 20/20. Anyway no bragging rights like my buddies in TSLA. But all is going well and beyond the original plan.

Nope,

Tesla and Palantir. My only two non-Bogelhead investments.
