New Vanguard commodity strategy fund VCMDX

Post by dave1054 » Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:05 am

Approaching retirement and comfortable with about 50% stock 50% short and intermediate muni funds. Is there any need to increase diversification and maybe allocate some money to this new commodity fund to “protect” against inflation or is stocks the best protection for possible inflation down the road?

It's really only the bonds that need protecting, and if you are actually just now "approaching" retirement you could probably kill two birds with one stone by replacing your short-term muni bonds with long-term TIPS.

This would have the benefit of reducing several risks (interest rate risk and inflation risk) at once.

That appears to be a general discussion (Vanguard Announces Plans to Launch Commodities Fund).

I think the OP is asking specifically for his portfolio, as there is a related question here: Talk me out of trading muni bond funds

dave1054 - May I suggest posting your portfolio in this thread using the Asking Portfolio Questions format? It might help get things in focus.

An alternative - As suggested in your other thread, having an Investment policy statement might also help.
