Fidelity - Screwups + Bad Customer Service

Post by JamesSFO » Wed Mar 13, 2019 2:58 pm

So Fidelity managed to unlink my bank account for both deposits and withdrawals. Called in was told they cannot look up what happened and tried to claim I had gotten the money in some other way.

Ask how to fix. I must fill out a PDF form. I ask how to get them the form they say electronic secure submission of scanned and signed PDF is ok. I do that, then they reject that and say I have to mail it or bring the form to a center.

So that's (1) mess up my account and cannot explain and will not even attempt a fix then (2) cannot give a basic answer correctly for a simple paperwork question.

I had successful weekly transfers to two fidelity accounts for the past 15 years. I added a third one late 2018, also weekly, without any issues. I set them up myself on the website.

Previously, yes, they took away my bank account information and have no record and/or are unwilling/unable to look up what happened. No changes to my account in title.

That's how I've done it everywhere else (Vanguard, Schwab, my banks, etc.) but not Fidelity apparently or not for me for some unknown reason...

I would change my password at fidelity just in case someone did this maliciously.

1. Gain access to JamesSFO's Fidelity account.
2. Remove access to his bank account.
3. ????
4. Profit!

I would check to make sure the name on the funding account didn’t change and matches what you have in Fidelity

This is driving me nuts. When you take Fidelity, subtract screwups, and add bad customer service, what do you get?

And what form are they making you send in? Why can't you just set up the account again via the website?

It did not, but even so then one would think their computers would be able to say, "hey mr James SFO our system rejected your account after N years because we think the names are mismatched." not just delete all record of the accounts.

It's their "EFT Authorization Form" and it is a fillable PDF that must be printed + signed (and sometimes get a medallion guarantee)

Btw, form was physically handed off Wednesday around 11am. Was not processed as of this morning. I called and they "accelerated processing" and the EFT will now be possible on Monday.

Now being told that this coming Thursday or Friday is the earliest I can expect EFT to be (re-)enabled. Sigh.

I don't understand why Fidelity doesn't do penny deposits as a backup to link bank accounts like every other financial institution. It took them 3 weeks to add my accounts via EFT form. By then, I had lost interest with them and went with Schwab.

Wish I knew, way slower than Vanguard or Schwab or anyone else. I finally got the money out of my account. And keep in mind they are still trying to deny I ever had EFT set up previously even though that's how $ got into the account.
