How to reach and help novices not reading these boards?

Post by BlueSkies » Tue Jan 22, 2019 10:01 am

My volunteer project is to help reach novice investors who are afraid to invest or very confused. I'm looking for ideas on how to reach out. As one idea, I'm writing a blog .
Erin Arvedlund incuded one of my quotes (anonymously) in her Jack Bogle tributes in the Philly Inquirer this Monday.
Thanks.

I would say that many aren't afraid or confused - they just have no interest in putting the time in. You can put your blog in front of them - but they won't read it - they will return to reading about Sports or their favorite TV show. I'm not sure how you solve that problem.

Become a famous singer:
I want to be a billionaire (NSFW) Bruno Mars Just change this to "I want to be a Boglehead so-o-o freaking bad. Buy all the funds I never had ...."
or
Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" has "Make Deposits"

Good for you! I, too, am interested in teaching financial literacy and think it will be my volunteer "job" when I retire. While a blog is aimed at the masses, unless you have a lucky strike on gaining big exposure, your work may go unnoticed. Maybe to focus on a small group or 'investment learning club' that meets at the public library or such would be more satisfying. To help a fewer number of interested individuals to take charge of their financial lives would be a concrete win. The schools are not able/successful in teaching this life skill, so outside sources of guidance are key. Best of luck to you!

Thank you. I'm retired and your idea of the library is a great one. I do teach a course to retirees in a learning institute and some women (often those whose husbands have died) or husbands (worried about leaving widows unprepared) come to the class.

That is most kind of you!
I plan to keep at it for a while to see if I can help anyone. At my age I'd like to think I can give back, even in an anonymous way.
Difficulty is finding those who struggled like I did.
