Query - Rolling after-tax 401(k) funds to a Roth IRA

Post by dbk » Fri Oct 12, 2018 12:57 am

Is there a limit on number of times we can do roll over of after-tax 401(k) funds to a Roth IRA in a given year?
Can it be done for every paycheck's After-Tax 401k contribution? (our paycheck is Biweekly).
Thanks.

Different firms/plans enact different limits. Check your plan documents.

Some might charge a fee as well.

i do it once a year.. some years i owe a tiny tax on a tiny gains.. oh well.

i'm not sure if you do it 26 times, if you will potentially get 26x2 = 52 1099-R's, i would sure hope not.

i typically get 2 1099-R's when i do it, one for the basis and one for the gains. (just so your aware).

I do it about 5-6 times a year... I guess I could do it after every paycheck, but it gets cumbersome.
I get one 1099R, with the basis (box 5) and the gains (box 2a)
