What did you buy today
What did you buy today
I had some dry powder on the side waiting for an opportunity.. I used some of it to add some ITOT at $63.50 today.
Like to know if you used this as an opportunity to buy some (if yes, what did you buy) or waiting for more downturn for buying opportunity

Canned corn.
Last week I was at almost, but not quite all the way to, my top level stock tolerance. Now, without taking action, I'm a little above target and well within my band.

Why does a 3% drop constitute an opportunity? Ten percent, I get it, but a 3% drop? What is your definition of "opportunity"?

i placed an order yesterday to exchange from money market funds to index funds on vanguard, but the orders still say in progress. does that mean the buy price hasn't been determined yet?

10 year treasury notes in the auction, 30 year treasury auction is tomorrow.
I run a 50/50 short term and long-term treasury only bond allocation.
Hopefully rates continue to improve.

I added to my dwindling positions in VSS (Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US Small Cap) and EMGF (iShares Multifactor Emerging Markets). They were underweight after the recent sell-off.
My U.S. allocation was not underweight, so it just sat there.

I almost bought a new car. But when I asked the dealer to confirm the price shown online, I was told there was "a conflict in their online price." It turns out the real price is $6K more than the advertised price. So the price was great, unless you actually wanted to buy the car.

Re: What did you buy today
Funny thing, I entered some limit orders last night. Of course, I had no idea we'd get a 3% sell off today. Some of my orders executed. They were for ETFs in my IRAs.
I considered buying more, but I didn't like the market action as we drew to the close. I considered tax swaps, but maybe it is a little early in the year for that.
Thunderstorms are predicted all day tomorrow, so I don't know whether I will be able to log in and buy/sell/swap. We'll see.

VTI. I had cash to invest and this seemed like a good day to do it.

My company paid for lunch today, so I didn't spend a single dollar on anything at all today. It's just a 3% drop.

AMZN and IGV in taxable account (limit orders got executed).
In TD Ameritrade account: XAR (defense), FIW (water), XSW (software), FDN (Internet).
Then the usual broad market index ETFs/mutual funds on pay day. Rinse and repeat every 2 weeks.

Knockoff dayquil and nyquil, knockoff 12 hour sudafed, bananas, and some whiskey.
All for medicinal purposes. Flu season has begun.
Already had lemon, honey, yogurt, rice, bread for toast, and garlic. A can of chicken soup somewhere.
I did see that there was some movement in the stock and bond markets.

VFIAX and IJR. IJH tripped the 2.5% down “buy signal” for me about 5 minutes or so before the close but I had my hands full with babies so I decided to let it ride. Tomorrow’s coming soon.

Nibbled on ITOT as well in taxable
Re: What did you buy today
$5K of VTSAX but I hadn't even seen the news about the stock market...just adding to the taxable account according to the plan.
Re: What did you buy today
Didn't buy...but put in a limit order for VTI in taxable, in case the trend continues for a bit tomorrow.
...that's 1 share of VTI. I don't consider our EF to be fully-funded, and like someone up-thread said, it's not like its a truly huge selloff. So I feel my reaction is proportional.

Re: What did you buy today
I exchanged VMMXX in my taxable to VFIAX in taxable and to VTSMX in my tIRA. This was not in reaction to anything happening in the markets, infact when I did the exchange I hadn't the slightest idea that the markets were going to go down so much today.
BTW, Dow futures are down -300, we will see what happens tomorrow.
if you placed the order yesterday after 4pm Eastern (cutoff time corresponding to market close) then you get today's price. If you placed before 4pm Eastern then you will get yesterday's price. It will say "In progress" for a while, it takes 2-3 days to finalize.

Frozen kale or spinach is in >90% of my dinners. Usually sauteed in grass-fed butter with fish, chicken, of beef with lots of raw garlic on top. Its the way to do it

10% drop ... cannot rule out the chance of one such drop.
However, it appears the largest single day correction to date has been 7.87%. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_l ... al_Average

You read this incorrectly. There have been 8 drops in the Dow larger, including a very famous 22% drop in October of 87.sman09 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 10:05 pm10% drop ... cannot rule out the chance of one such drop.

Just happened to be moving some money in deferred comp to SWTSX, so maybe I caught a little break on my already scheduled purchase.
