Whew! Stock market is no longer at all-time highs, so ...

... there shouldn't be any more questions about the wisdom of investing at all-time highs for awhile.

And bonds are no longer at highs either.

just like there are no more dividends for a while so people will stop asking why their fund dropped in value!

Great news. Now people will ask if stocks and bonds even make sense at this time, when both are declining. Should I invest only in T-bills? But even they can decrease in value. Bank deposits for me.

remember you don't have to sell stocks at peak or buy at the bottom. You can't time the market but you can always time the economical cycle. Keep some cash position (or politically correctly proper AA) and re balance (it is a market timing scheme also many BH here pretend to deny it).

I wish there were mattresses that would print about 2-3% more cash per year (vs deposited).

Soo hear you....
Great thread title!

Meanwhile, I'll do my usual year-end check a month or so from now for tax opportunities, re-balancing, etc. so that as of Jan 1, I can forget about it all again for another 6-12 months, lol... <*yawn*>

Until then, I'll just live my life, "softly" as you suggest, OP. ; )

Ohmigosh, that would be FABULOUS!! There are so many opportunities in a crash (having lived through several). If not, I'm ok with that too. I stay the course. ; )

EDIT: To anyone reading who isn't "getting" the humor in livesoft's OP or the subsequent posts - and is willing to overlook the Friday-evening foibles of a bunch of punchy BHs who've been through a few market ups-and-downs over the years - I respectfully refer you to nisiprius's OUTSTANDING post that is stickied to the top of the "Investing - Theory, News and General" sub-forum. It's enitled "A Time to EVALUATE Your Jitters". Click here.

Thank goodness I have those blue-chip General Motors and Kodak shares I bought in 1980. I haven't followed the prices, but I'm sure they must be worth a bundle by now!

Sell everything, the party is over, the Fed is taking away the punch bowl, massive inflation is coming while will drive 10 year yields so high nobody will want to buy stocks, p.s. plus gold and oil futures, best to leverage it up at 10x.

At least, that's what the bird entrails tell me.
