I currently have 90k in liquid cash that I have set aside for a backyard makeover. Due to the timing of my contractor it looks like I won’t be starting my project for another 9 months. I am wondering what the best investment would be for that time period. Should I put it in a short term CD or other small interest investment or dump it into my TD Ameritrade account and take advantage of a strong market? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Best short term investment
How much of that 90k do you want to be sure is available in 9 months?
The bottom line is there is no way to get creative here. A savings account could get you ~1.3%. A short-term bond fund might get closer to 2% but you could lose just as much in the meantime. And we're talking about swings of a few hundred dollars on 90k.
My guess is your best bet is the Ally no penalty CD.

Per the two posters above ? Yep and Yep.
I put my short term investments/emergency funds in those, and in my case ? Capitol One 360 MM (about 1.3%)

Re: Best short term investment
FYI, I came across this posting in a search for short term investments. I tried the link to Capitalone.com/my500bonus, and it took me all the way through the account sign up process. However, at the end it said "Congratulations, you have opened a Money Market account with us...but your bonus coupon code is invalid". So no extra $500 bucks for me, and no notification that the code was invalid until after I was signed up. Oh well.
By the way, good luck with the backyard project!

Kind of an old thread, but Ally Bank savings is currently at 1.45%, 6 month T-Bills at 1.9%.
