E*Trade no longer offering free real time quotes

Post by newbie003 » Tue Dec 26, 2017 9:47 am

Am I reading this correct, that E*Trade no longer offers free real time quotes? They want $121 month??

Do other brokerages operate this way as well?

Thank you.

That is probably the fee for when you are designated as a "professional user" and want real-time quotes. Otherwise, it's probably still free for non-pro users. Check with the company and find out if you are being designated s pro or non-pro.

Do they give u delayed quotes at the time you’re entering an order with a limit price?

IB charges for market data, but you can get it free at other brokers. I have an account at etrade and I'm getting real time quotes free there AFAIK.

Missed a few days on my Etrade Pro and this AM when I signed in I had a popup that took me through the motions and I see I was a non professional user. Maybe missed any small print. Presently all screens seem a go in real time on market depth and portfolio.
I would want real time quotes, of course. If it were to change, well, so would I. I would move my entire account some other broker.

Ah. It does seem that I inadvertently selected yes to some prompts that popped up the other day, so they think I'm a professional. I just need to change the answers to no and I should be all set (though of course it's not working right now...).

So I'm now being told that "because you have business accounts linked to your profile you are considered a professional for real time quotes."

The business account is simple the checking account for my wife's small business (selling jewelry), but apparently that still makes me a professional, so I have to pay for data...

I'm chatting online with them right now (by the way, I love their chat support feature), and they said I can break off the business account to it's own user ID, and then my main user ID will be eligible for real time. Not ideal, but not the end of the world.
