Admiral, Don't mean to argue but my accounts were not 50K higher 5 weeks ago? They are much more down than that.
I have no idea what's in your accounts.

On Dec 30 the S&P was at 2673. It's now 2648, a difference of 27 points.

I may be the only person in the world that feels this way but I need to express this emotion. I am just tired (maybe even exhausted by) of the stock market going up. The constant flow of gains makes me feel like I need to do something (change my AA, take some off the table, increase my equities, reduce my exposure, rebalance, buy more international, buy small cap, buy value, sell large cap growth) every week. Plus I never feel like I got lucky because I caught a 5-10% pullback when I buy my shares of VTI. While I have kept myself between the rails on my Plan, I essentially feel like I am getting paranoid waiting for a shoe to drop. Things are just going too well for investors, my mind won't accept it. I look at the change in my portfolio value YTD and my mind tells something is about to happen this is just too much of a good thing. Just worn out from telling myself to stand there and do nothing. There I said it and I feel better for it.
Yes! Tired of it! No way should I have become a millionaire that fast!!! This past few days has have bring it a little bit back into reality.

The Time Lord no longer posts here I noticed (WHERE ARE YOU TIME LORD?), but I remember this thread because I thought it was kind of funny that the stock market going up could be tiresome.

Yup. A friend of mine texted me and asked what I thought of the "stock market spiral". I replied that it seemed to me more of a speed bump.

I laughed in 1987. Not much time to do anything else.
I joked in 2001. I hadn't bought tech stocks, so no big deal to me.
I froze in 2008. From pure fear. Had no idea what to do. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Well with the ongoing crash aka "correction" everyone who was so tired of the market going up can now be happy and rest. Foe me I am very unnerved by the downturn as I just retired and now watch my account shrink by over 50K. Not happy!

About a month ago I was feeling that the market was getting a little "frothy". Things were so good that I was nervous and thinking about taking some chips off the table in my AA of 60:40. I'm close to 60 years old so I was seriously considering a change to 50:50. Not too drastic but it would help me sleep better at night. Almost made the change but I'm old enough to know that you really shouldn't act on instinct or out of fear so I decided to wait 30 days before making any changes. Now I'm down over 60K and wish I'd made the trades back then. I know, I know. Hindsight's 20:20.

As long as the broader economy is doing ok, I would be happy if it stayed lower for the next four to six months.

Started selling in February of 2018, blew out all international in Spring of 2018, have had 0 sleepless nights due to the almost Bear Market we are in.
Hey, it’s The TimeLord!

Merry Christmas, dude. Hope you’ve been doing well and curious how your 2018 went. Did you keep working?

Happy Holidays!
All is well, 2018 appears to be on target to meet/exceed goals barring a collapse in the coming week. Still working but I think I am beginning to feel this is my final push unless there is a change in my work arrangements.

I am Class of 2019 (mid-January). I was fortunate have migrated from 100/0 to 50/50 over the past 3 years, so I have taken a lot of money off the table as well.

December 2018 definitely helped relieve my above concern, personally I am feeling better entering 2019. Sure there are lots of issues to be resolved in 2019 and beyond but to me that is a more natural state than what we were seeing in late 2017 into early 2018.

It is tiresome having to psychologically re-anchor to higher and higher total portfolio values. Think of the regret when you holdings fall from that high anchor.

I feel for you. And for King Midas who had to endlessly fret about gold prices on the spot market. And for poor King Croesus who had to send envoys to all the oracles within sailing distance. He did not have the internet where he could look up John Bogle's latest zig or zag on what you supposedly had to do to stay the course.

Appreciate your sympathies but I have taken some steps to address these issues so I'm good.
