401k Choices

Post by rzk96 » Thu Jun 15, 2017 9:44 pm

My background investment wise:
Roth IRA - Vanguard Target Fund 2050- $11,000
401k - see below on what I had/have - $48,500

Taxable Accounts - Just started- I add monthly around $200 per account. I know, I'm late to game :(
Vanguard TSM - $1,637
Vanguard VXUS - $265.14
Fidelity ITOT - $1,003
Fidelity IXUS - $115.44
(not eligible for HSA)

I got a notification recently that my 401k was changing to Blackrock Lifepath Index. It was Vanguard Target Fund. Now I'm unsure if this is an ok 401k choice? See below for choices. Expense Ratios included. And even if I should stick to my Blackrock Lifepath choice... do I need any actual Total Bonds purchase to my taxable? I am 27

I was going to compare Vanguard Target to Blackrock Lifepath on a growth chart, but decided I didn't want to assume years and tickers. You'll get better responses if you can provide the information in Asking Portfolio Questions, especially the fund tickers. Just edit your original post.

BlackRock LifePath Index Funds are great. I usually have no problem recommending them, but why did you leave out your plan's ER's for the Vanguard Target Funds and for the incoming LifePath funds?

Judging by the high expenses of the asset class index funds in your plan, I'll assume that your 401k is adding lard to the expenses for those options, too, but I have no idea by how much.

Will you please list them? Also is there any ticker symbol associated with the new LifePath funds. It's more of a curiosity, since there are slightly different (all fine) iterations of LifePath Index funds. The compositional differences amongst themselves and between them and Vanguard is unimportant in my mind.

Would you also mind including how much you're contributing (or will be contributing) each year your 401k?
