Need advice on my 401K with the new company

Postby sangski » Mon Mar 20, 2017 3:07 pm

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to this investment world. need some help from bogleheads.

To introduce myself, I'm a single, 29 years old - turning 30 in next month.

My retirement plan,
I've been on Roth IRA with Vanguard since 2015. (VFIFX)
and I have invested about 80k in Vanguard fund so far. 30 / 70 ratio (VBTLX) / (VTIAX & VTSAX)
also have stocks about 10K / probably move this money to Vanguard eventually.

So here is my question about 401k..
I have recently started a new full-time job (about 100k annual income).
and finally set and decided to put 10% of monthly income into 401k.
The company does matching 401k. 4% of the annual income. 25% first year / 50% second / 75% third / 100% fourth..
Since this is my first year with the company, I will get 25% matching.

Unfortunately, I don't have many options for funds to pick for my 401K..
As of now, I've been putting 100%, 10% of monthly income into T. Rowe Price Retirement 2050 Fund - Class - R.
But I'm considering to switch to State Street S&P 500 Index Securities Lending Series Fund - Class IX instead.
Would this be a better move?

On the other side,
Do you guys think its worth of putting 10% of monthly income into this 401K plan?
or Should I just keep investing the money into Vanguard funds instead?

Here are the funds I can pick.
------------------------------------------------------------------
PIMCO Total Return Fund - Class A
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2010 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2015 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2020 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2025 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2030 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2035 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2040 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2045 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2055 Fund - Class R
T. Rowe Price Retirement Balanced Fund - Class R
JPMorgan Equity Income Fund - Class A
Franklin Rising Dividends Fund - Class A
State Street S&P 500 Index Securities Lending Series Fund - Class IX
Alger Capital Appreciation Institutional Fund - Class I
Victory Sycamore Established Value Fund - Class A
State Street S&P MidCap Index Non-Lending Series Fund - Class J
Principal MidCap Fund - Class R3
Delaware Small Cap Value Fund - Class A
State Street Russell Small Cap Index Securities Lending Series Fund - Class VIII
Janus Triton Fund - Class S $24.
AllianzGI NFJ International Value Fund - Class A

Your advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Could you tell us the fee ratios for your 401k options? That would help greatly with making a recommendation on where to invest in.

Yes, I would say switching to the State Street S&P 500 Index Securities Lending Series Fund is a good move since it has the lowest fee ratio. If you haven't already, I suggest asking your custodian about the possibility of adding low-fee index fees such as Vanguard or Fidelity or something. I think it was either this year or last year that my employer added Vanguard funds to my 401k plan.

I recommend reading through the link patrick013 provided. It has good information as to how to invest your money.
