How to estimate cost of medicare supplement policies in retirement

Post by johngault » Sun Mar 05, 2017 8:31 pm

I am ten (10) years from retirement and currently focusing on development of a post-retirement spending budget. I'm looking for suggestions on how to estimate the cost of various medicare supplement policy options during retirement. I plan to retire at 67 and defer SS until age 70. I will need a medicare supplement policy for my spouse and me. All suggestions welcome. thanks.

You might want to check current prices and guess that they would rise with inflation, or perhaps at a slightly faster rate. I believe Medicare D for prescription drugs and regular Medicare B are the two you are penalized for not getting when you first separate from work or reach 65, whichever is later.

If you choose to keep private insurance that your employer MAY allow you to keep, you may not need to buy supplemental Medicare D, if it meets requirements.
