Question on Vanguard web site: hide fund with 0 balance

Postby itworks » Tue Jan 29, 2013 8:12 pm

I love the vanguard web site, simple yet easy to use.. It must be designed with serious user experiences considerations.

Just a quick question: I dislike seeing those funds with 0 balance listing there. Anyhow to configure my account to hide them? Searched around account settings but I could not find any.

Thanks!

Click on "Customize this page", then click on "Hide zero balance"

Click on Customize Accounts ......I think it's on the upper right when you are viewing your accounts. Hide 0 balance accounts is an option.

B aware that while you can hide zero-balance mutual fund holdings in account view, they still appear in your list of available funds to trade when you click exchange to sell one fund (even your money market) for shares of another. So it is possible to mess up and buy back into a closed position if you're not careful.

My rep says those zero accounts disappear on their own "after awhile" but even he cannot delete them, only hide them, until they vaporize on their own.

In the past you could delete them. A caveat, once they are gone for any reason, the history for those transactions is gone as well as the historical account totals are forever incorrect.

I know this thread is a few years old, is this still the way to hide them? I helped my mom simply her portfolio holdings earlier this week. She now has about 6 total funds with balances and 13 funds with $0 balance that all show on balances and holdings. When she goes to "customize this page" it already is checked for "hide zero balance" When she scrolls down and tries to uncheck a fund with a zero balance it automatically unchecks the entire account.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Bump to subscribe. I have the same problem, only when I click on "Customize this page" I don't even see an option to hide zero balances, only Display all accounts vs Display only the selected accounts.

What happens when she clicks "Display only the selected accounts below" and then checks only what she wants displayed? Does that work?

Is she on the mutual fund side or the brokerage side? I don't know if they're the same. I'm only on the fund side.

Traditional IRA has 3 funds with balances, about 11 with balances of $0. So, she doesn't want to hide the whole account, just the $0 lines.

Traditional before and after is only mutual funds, taxable had an ETF and mutual funds, now just mutual funds

In my taxable account I am able to show two funds and hide one fund using the "Display only the selected accounts below" button. For me unchecking one fund does not uncheck the other funds.

If she had an ETF then her taxable is definitely on the brokerage side. I don't know if that works the same as the fund side.
