Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
Re: Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
100% US, most TMI (three different flavors) but some S&P 500 index. No real recipe for how the funds are held, some from TLH and some just from different times/brokerages. Both ETF and mutual funds. If I was putting the money in now, it would likely be 100% FZROX.

This comes after a long time of bouncing around my international allocation. I finally decided “screw it, let the market decide for me” and sleep better at night as a result.

VTI and VXUS. Mostly VTI, though. I had some IJS in taxable but I TLH'd it all last year and shifted that allocation to tax-deferred. I'm going to have a tax loss carry-forward for the next few years. It was a good year.

Re: Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
74 years old. Approximately 14 % in taxable due to left over RMDs, etc. Taxable is divided 13% VTWAX. 63% VTSAX and 24% VMRXX.
I stopped contributing to VTSAX a few years ago when I noted it was throwing my AA out of whack vs. targets. VTWAX is now the ultimate recipient of tax refunds, left over RMDs. etc. VMRXX is high because it houses the emergency fund, travel costs are lower than projected so far, and annual rebalancing has yet to take place.

I take Bogle’s advice and avoid international. I also keep bonds in IRAs.
I have VOO, VTI, and FSKAX in taxable.

Why simple! Total Stock Market Index fund!
Buy as much Total Stock as possible until it hurts. Then find a way to buy even more!
It works.

Re: Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
About 70/30 Stocks/Bonds. For stocks 50/50 VTI/VXUS. For Bonds I bonds, some CDs, Ally and Marcus savings accounts. Starting to put a bit in crypto though so my overall ratio will change a bit. Most likely will be 70/25/5 now.
Re: Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
Due mostly to tax-loss-harvesting issues, I have Total Stock Market, 500 Index, and Extended Market. At various times I've also used a couple of other funds like Tax Managed Cap App and Tax Managed Small Cap. Again the reason for the multiple funds is mostly a result of loss harvesting and then being stuck not being able (or wanting) to sell due to capital gains. And cash in HY savings and CDs at the moment.
Re: Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
The way I avoid this issue is that I harvest stock fund A and buy fund B which I already hold. If this leaves me overweighted in B and the market goes up, I will add new money to A to get back into balance.tibbitts wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 9:27 pm Due mostly to tax-loss-harvesting issues, I have Total Stock Market, 500 Index, and Extended Market. 76% cash (savings account)
12% IVV (iShares s&p 500 etf)
12% VTI (Vanguard Total Stock Market etf)
I will likely sell the IVV once it has been held longer than a year and buy more VTI. It was a “mistake” to buy the IVV once I read up on tax loss harvesting due to also owning s&p500 index funds in tax deferred accounts with ongoing contributions. VTI will allow us to add equities and be prepared for tax loss harvesting (if/when necessary). New contributions are used to purchase more VTI.

Rationale: simplicity, super tax efficient because I'm in the 0% long term capital gains bracket so dividends are free, I like buying in dollar amounts and I don't care to time vti purchases (but vti is great).

Pre- pandemic:

After the crash I moved to VOO then purchased additional investments which brings me to:

2% TRMB
2% ADSK
My next purchases will be in VOO until the market corrects again.

Taxable into 3 buckets
1. Wealth 70% - VTI, SPY, VXUS, BND
2. Income 10% - SPYD, JDIV, SCHB, few Aristocrats.
3. Speculation - 20% - 100s of option contracts, 10-12 quality stocks (holding them since single days).

I’m currently 100% VTI.
Thinking of going 70% VTI, 20% VXUS, and 10% Intermediate Tax Exempt Bond - Any recommendations for a good ETF? Also, any thoughts on my allocation?
Part of me wants to change, but the other part of me doesn’t want to change. I like the simplicity but I don’t feel like I’m as diversified as I need to be.

100% VTSAX.
But, our taxable is very small relative to our other accounts. Our other personal (me and spouse) retirement/savings accounts are about 20% VTSAX and the rest is Target 2035 (Vanguard). ("Kid" college money is in Vanguard SP500 Index and kid trust funds are in Vanguard Life Strategy Growth (80/20 Index).

VTWAX, SCHB, and SCHF. I needed more international than I could fit in my Roth. Oh, and some I bonds now.
Re: Willing to share your Taxable Portfolio?
Taxable is about 25% of my total portfolio.
60% VTSAX/VTCLX (TMI/Tax managed cap-appreciation)
5% VSMAX (Small cap index)
20% VTMGX (Developed markets index)
5% VEMAX (Emerging markets index)

4% GLDM
I have most of my bonds in tax-deferred, and my REITs in Roth. More of everything, really, in tax-advantaged accounts. I haven't gotten to the point yet where my bond allocation eats up all of my tax deferred. I have some money coming in soon (a family member is repaying a loan) and I will probably be more attentive to fund placement when I invest those dollars--I set up the allocations above when I started investing as a newbie after a windfall, and now I feel kind of stuck due to all the capital gains.

We have 57 holdings, from broad index funds to actively managed funds to individual securities. Everything except the broad index funds are holdovers from our financial advisor. We have over 100 holdings when we started to self-managed four years ago, so this is progress! And still a mess. Largest individual securities are at 7.4%, 5.9%, and 5.1%. Everything else at 2% or greater is some form of fund.
