Honestly, as you know, they never expire.

At one point, we had north of $1k in credits. I have just been using them over the years. Down to about $300 now. We only use them for items we would have normally purchased.

This way we don't "waste" any of the funds.

I think you should hold onto the car. You have to remember, only part of your cost was for a repair, brakes are maintenance.

That 2008 CRV is likely going to need maintenance (brakes, tires, etc) in the near future as well.

Stick it out until a >$2K cost comes up and is required to fix.

We stayed in Playa Del Carmen and took a bus to Tulum (cheap, school bus Mexican transit type of thing). Absolutely stunning down there. They also have some ancient ruins on the bluff. The sand is great and no one is on the beach.
