Re: Downside of dollar-cost averaging

I always thought DCA is the best thing to do. If the share price is high, you buy less stocks, and it its low, you buy more amount of stock. The reason this is done is because its impossible to predict what the stock market will do. If you have a large amount of cash (lets say $20.000) and you put i...

Re: Suze Orman, bond funds, and my understanding.

I have both Vanguard total bond market index fund and GNMA, and they do quite well.
People have different opinions about bond funds. I personally avoid anything "long term" duration. :?

Re: Vanguard Balanced Index Fund (the original couch potato)

I have the Vanguard Star Fund instead of the Balanced Index fund as a Roth IRA. The Star is similar in that its AA is also 60% stocks and 40% bonds, and the minimun to open an account is still only $1000. I never asked Vanguard why this is. Maybe someone in the forum knows.

Re: How much do you spend to get taxes done?

I do my taxes myself even if it takes 2 or 3 hours. I"m to cheap to pay anyone to do my taxes.

I always do it the old fashioned way: on paper, and never use any software of any kind. I am paranoid of leaving it on a computer in case it gets stolen or identity theft occurs.

Only two VG funds in my 401K. Why?

My current 401K only has 2 VG Funds:

1) VG Energy fund ( I invest 50%)
2) VG Protection Securities (50%)

Other non-Vanguard funds in the 401K have expensive ratios, load fees, etc. which I dont want any part of. How come many retirement funds have few funds from Vanguard?

I am glad Vanguard sent you a penny. About 7 years ago, I had to sent the IRS a penny, I didnt send a check--I just put the penny in the envelop.

I have the Vanguard 500 Index Fund, Extended Market Index Fund, Total Bond Market Index Fund, and a TIPS fund. My asset mix in these four funds is approximately 80% stocks and 20% bonds.
