Re: 401k over-contribution is confusing my payroll departmen

Hi, most 401(k) plans allow what you call an "over contribution" as "after-tax" contributions.

Check Your Summary Plan Description (SPD) for info regarding this. If you cannot do anything about it this year, just like "The Chicago Cubs", there is always next year.

Good luck

Re: Anyone buying extra $5000 I Bonds through tax refunds

I'm thinking about overpaying taxes to buy the extra $5k in I Bonds. I already maxed out the $10k for 2014. Have you done this and do you think it's a good idea to buy before rate changes? It's not good use of your money to give it to the gubbament to hold interest-free for a year. Assuming you wan...

Re: Vanguard automatic transactions - any pitfalls?

One problem that has not been mentioned using AUTO contribute is the chance that you may buy into a dividend or capital gain.

Check the schedule of dividends and cap gains so you do not buy into them.

Re: who here is tempted to pullback on stocks?

Earlier this year I did pull back on stocks, and it was due to the market's return. What happened was the stock runup pushed the value of my portfolio over a pre-defined multiple of expenses, at which point my IPS says to modestly reduce the risk of my portfolio by changing from 60/40 to 50/50. I d...

Your first idea of lottery tickets, was also my first thought.

How bout go with the first thought? Maybe buy 500 ($1) scratch off tickets to be used as gifts for family.

Most everyone loves those. Who knows, perhaps someone will win big, and share with you
