As a single 70 year old retiree I chose 0. I could live off of the interest. My concentration would be on spending not making money.

I selected Kindle because I own one and I'm not familiar with the others. I chose Kindle because it had the largest screen. In the fall you will also be able to borrow e-books from the library which other readers allow now. My only complaint is that I wish the Kindle had a back light for night readi...

Re: Please review my bond funds

YDNAL, I fel that the total returns on the funds that I own far outweighed the difference in E/R between them and VG bond funds. Really? Vanguard Short Term Index (VBIRX) gained 5.51% in 2008. Conversely, Homestead Short-Term Bond HOSBX lost -3.52% in 2008. Does this tell you anything about risk/re...

Why would you even worry about the cost of living in 24 years? No one has any idea what the cost of living will be in 10 years let alone 24 years!

nisipirus, My buying MWTRX was in lieu of buying VBMFX. I knew that FNMIX was a high risk fund but I felt I could use my 5% "mad money" on it, but I do think that your chart shows that the payoff on this fund is well worth the risk. I did buy Wellesley because of it's conservative nature and althoug...

I can't comment on the bond funds since I've never heard of most of them. But do tell about the 3% savings account. That sounds interesting given the much less than 1% account returns of most. When I was too collect money from SBLI as a benificary on a life insurance policy they gave me the option ...

I don't know that much about bonds and would like any comments and suggestions about the funds that I own. I am 72, a retired widower with no debt and very low living expenses. My AA is 50/50. I own: FNMIX - Fidelity New Markets Income (5.25% of total portfolio) HOSBX - Homestead Short Term Bond (5....

back in the Bronx (that is where 1530 Jesup Avenue was) my dad sent me up to the roof to check the antennae when the TV picture went bad. and then I knocked on the doors of the three other TV owners in our six story building to see if they were having the same trouble. worst case I had to go to the...
