Re: 36yo Fam of 5 - Debating a pool? How are we doing?
Community pool or country club minutes away isn’t much of a trade off. Still gotta load up the kids and pack, even if it’s a fun golf cart ride. My neighbors are always at their second house and give us free unlimited use of their pool and guess what….we just put one in! There’s is a benefit to having the kids be able to run out back and swim and you can watch from the kitchen bay window. Working from home before it was cool and can’t wait to have them occupied outside all summer. $100k seems high for a fiberglass pool. The shell is around $30k then figure another $5k in basic equipment. Does that include a ton of extras or concrete patio? Thought about a liner? Just did a 20x40 for like $40k (no concrete deck) from one of the best builders...

Re: Is a 3 car garage really necessary?
Do it! Had a single car garage and built a 4 car garage (2 cars wide, 2 cars deep) and the 4 car really only holds 1 car. Why? KIDS! Powerwheels, scooters, toys, more powerwheels, hoverboards, sporting equipment, drink fridge, golf cart, the list goes on and on. Planning a detached 2 car now for the rear of my property that will only house my stuff! I get the not hording junk, but having the space keeps all your stuff spread out, not stacked on top of eachother. I cringe every time I drive by someones house with the garage door open and see mountains of junk stacked to the ceiling. If you do a double garage door on 2 of the bays go with a 18', not the standard 16'. Doesn't cost much more and having that 2' makes parking two vehicles next to...

Re: Disney experience
Only way to do it is with a guided tour. Cost like $600/hr but they pick you up from hotel, skipping parking and dropped off inside the park. Don’t have to wait in lines, can literally ride any ride and be on it again in 15 minutes. Front row to shows and the parade reserved so you walk up 5 minutes prior for the best seat. Sounds crazy expensive but you can do like 5 days worth of a normal park experience in 1 day. Have you done it? Yes and it’s seriously the only way I’d ever go, especially with kids. Was with a group that includes kids aged like 7 months to 10 years old. Having the guide let my wife and older kids ride, while I stayed with my 7 month old, then we would swap and I’d ride with the kids all in like 20 minutes. Even little ...

Re: Anyone negotiate a car lately? Any room as consumers?
I've successfully negotiated many cars in my life but apparently it's definitely not the buyer's market right now. For anyone who has negotiated a car lately, are there even any room for negotiation? Not really - best bet is to find any rebates you can. Only issues with rebates is if you order a car and the rebate is past the effective date, you lose it. Could take 4-6 months for the vehicle to arrive. Plus too is if you have a trade in they are paying top dollar. Just bought a truck last week and paid MSRP + $2,000. Ended up having $1,500 in rebates so basically paid MSRP. Then my trade in which was probably $20K they offered me $24K for. So I got hit over the head on the new vehicle, but made more on my trade in. Nets out enough for me!

Business Owner - Need Help with Investment Options
Have a friend who owns a business with 6 employees that keeps all cash in a bank account. When I found out he's talking to Edward Jones and some other broker, I told him I can help - he knows knowing about investing and account types. Currently has no personal or business (401K, 403B, etc) account. For the business, talked to Vanguard and narrowed down to Small Plan 401K or Simple IRA. Leaned towards the 401K for the Limit ($19.5 vs $13.5) but there is more setup and reporting...he likes simple! Simple IRA reduces the max to $13.5 which isn't a deal breaker since he can still contribute to a brokerage. I also planned on doing a backdoor Roth IRA for his personal account. With a Simple IRA, can you still contribute to a Traditional with afte...

so how does this work? the string and the bulb are separate? what exactly is the process? keep in mind i'm used to just buying pre-lit strands from the box stores. thanks! I like the larger C9 lights. You can buy these stringers in 25'/50'/100' lengths and connect together like standard light strands. https://www.1000bulbs.com/fil/categories/c9-christmas-string-lights The front of my house was 95', so I bought the 100' and cut 5' off then capped and tapped the exposed wires. When I did an addition, the front of my house went from 95' to 175'. I bought another string of 100' and cut it down, then used these plugs on each end to connect. If you have a long length then do sell 500' and 1000' spools. https://www.1000bulbs.com/fil/categories/sp...

Anyone have home cooked dinner ideas that all their kids eat without complaining? I have a pretty solid list, but about half the options result in one or two of the kids not liking while the other children want more.
Winners so far are:
Burgers/Fries
Breakfast for dinner (eggs, bacon, biscuits)
Taco Tuesday

Loved Ireland and highly recommend.
Similar to you, we traveled in a group of Irish friends that visit every few years. Ny only regret was that we stayed in a rental house near Bantry (southwest corner). Staying in one location put us in a car for a good part of the day.
1.5 hours to Cork, then had to drive home.
3 hours to Waterford, then had to drive home.
3.5 hours to the Cliffs of Moher, than had to drive home.
What made matters worse is that while we were driving, we passed tons of bed and breakfasts (pre Airbnb days). Pick a couple places to stay in that 10-14 days and space them apart to limit the windshield time.

Local, live in Virginia Beach.
If you want beach, stay on the south side of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel - eliminating Newport News and Hampton.
I'd look at Shore Drive area on VB. Not touristy and faces the bay (calmer water) and tons of restaurants within walking/biking distance. Oceanfront (north end) isn't that bad, but anything below 40th street is full of tourists in season and little more lively.
