Re: Trust Income Inheritance - Taxable?
You've got it right. Capital assets receive a stepped up basis, but ordinary income assets still retain their ordinary income characteristics and remain taxable following death. The mistake may have been to pull all the incoome out at one time. Gill Thanks for the response. Trusts, Annuities, Life ...

If you go to the free dinner seminar and you buy the annuity, the living trust, the timeshare, or the bridge, not only did you pay for your free dinner, but you paid for the free dinners for everyone else in the room. Well, you answered a question but not exactly the one that I asked. A simple erro...

Trust Income Inheritance - Taxable?
I am the Personal Rep for the estate of my deceased step dad. He had a Revocable Trust that owned an Interest Annuity. He bought this Annuity for $150,000 and at the time of his death, was surrendered for $230,000. So, an $80,000 gain that has not been taxed. If the estate pays the tax on this (befo...

I wish Vanguard would either rein in TurboTax or switch to a less greedy competitor. Tell your Flagship rep. I'l definitely let mine know. I did indeed speak with my Vanguard Flagship person and several others reps, as well. I am very disappointed in Vanguard. They are trying to "give" me...

Re: Annuity into Roth?
Rather than surrendering it he'd probably be better off doing a like kind exchange into a Vanguard variable annuity, the ER of Vanguard's variable annuity accounts are slightly higher than the base funds but still very reasonable and probably much lower than what he's paying. Vanguard offers many o...

Annuity into Roth?
My nephew was (unfortunately) steered to a variable annuity with Metlife more than 14 years ago. My advice to him is to surrender it and walk away. Then, if possible, rollover the money into his Roth. Can the money be rolled over into his existing Roth IRA? Or is the money simply considered income (...

My Savings Bond Wizard wants to update but every time I try to do it, it bombs out. I leaves a window titled "0% Extacting" that won't go away until I reboot. Anyone else having this problem? I had a problem because I use Chrome for my browser (no pun intended). No problem if I use IE or ...

Pilots and pilot unions are quite afraid of the further race to the bottom posed by Norwegian's business model. However, safety would not be a reason for which I would not fly on the airline. There are other carriers with safety cultures which scare me much more. Norwegian is being quite innovative...

I would not try to talk your friend into or out of the variable annuity or becomming a BH. The most I would say is that you don't personally care for variable annuities and that you are a BH. Leave the rest to him. As soon as you talk him into anything, something will happen to lower the value of h...

Metlife Variable Annuity Qs
A friend is considering a Metlife PrimElite IV Variable Annuity. The agent trying to sell this thing states that it has a guaranteed 5%, even in years of market downturn. I'm skeptical. I had always thought that Variable Annuities were to be avoided due to excessive fees. An SPIA is more my style bu...

GA (General Aviation) covers a very wide range of flyers, aircraft and operations.
In addition to all previously cited, EAA.org (Experimental Aircraft Association) would be worth your efforts.
Keep the shiny side up.
