Re: Very Financially Irresponsible Parent - Advice Needed

Legally, I think the worst case scenario is that you could be held liable for some expenses paid by the state. I'm not a lawyer (and I don't play one on the internet), but it seems that this is pretty rare and it's unlikely you would have to pay those expenses. Personally or emotionally, the worst c...

I had several "jobs" while I was still living at home with my parents. The first was me and my 2 older brothers were responsible for milking our 2 cows, morning and evening. I was probably 8-9 and we did this for several years. We kept the money from the milk we sold to the locals. We sold it for ab...

Re: Retirees: Questions you hate being asked

The majority of retirees responding to this thread seem to be annoyed by questions about what they do with their time. I am an unretired person who worries that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of employment and I might ask that question because I am genuinely curious. Maybe this que...

Southern and Southwest Colorado are the best parts of the state and if you are in that area, you should also spend some time in Northern New Mexico. If I had to choose between Wyoming and New Mexico, then New Mexico is an easy choice.

Your friend believes she needed financial help at some point during your friendship. Why didn't you give her what she wanted or needed? I live in suburban PA. My basement drain would back up about once a year. No damage to the basement, but it did always require a professional with a clog cutter. Changing 529 plans

I have started investigating 529 plans to help my parents set one up for the benefit of my niece. One concern is it doesn't seem like it would be easy to change from one plan to another because these are state specific and each plan has their own set of rules and regulations. For example, if my pare...

Line 44 is the tax on your taxable income, line 61 is your total tax. There are several things between line 44 and line 61 that can add to your total tax, but they have not included these in the numbers they sent you. My guess would be that you have an AMT tax. You also might have missed this on you...

Good point. Since estimated tax payments are among the limited information the IRS has prior to issuing a refund, it does seem like a plausible way to detect fraudulent returns before refunds are issued.
